Just curious what everyone prefers to shoot from the tree stand or blind on critters.

Mine is a 14" Bullberry barrel in 7.62x39
(.308 bore)
Bullet - Nosler 150 BT
Powder - H4895
Charge - 28 grains
Velocity - 2050 fps

So far I have only shot a couple of bunnies with this gun but I hope to shoot a nice whitetail with it.

Probably the .223 Remington with the Super 14. It is overall the most accurate barrel with jacketed bullets. BUT, the 7-30 Waters is the best with jacketed and cast bullets for M.O.A. out to 200 yards with both type of slugs...BCB

7-30,

Glad you asked!...

I think my favorite is my 16 1/4" 375H&H Encore barrel - it hammered a whitetail doe last year, from a tree stand at ~70 yards (Hornady 220 gn FP @ 2500 fps). Though not the biggest round you can get, I think of it as my "hand cannon" [Wink] .

I plan to give the 15" 260 Rem barrel a chance this year (120 NBTs).

Regards, Bill

7-30, That's a good question. [Wink] Through the years, I've killed many more deer w/ my 14" 6.5 JDJ (120 gr NBT or Sierra SP) than all other's combined. But, I'm finding myself partial to my 12" 300-221 barrel (125 NBT or 130 Hornady SSP). I was hoping to use my newly acquired 30 Alaskan Bower barrel for evening deer hunts this year, but intitial load w/u w/ 165 gr NBT was a comlete flop.... [Embarrassed] AM hunts will find me trying to make my first kill w/ a 257 JDJ (90 gr Sierra BTHP). I'm also determined to "bloody" my Striker in 308 Win (150 gr Hornady SST) this year. It will be used for long range shots on a large power line I hunt and probably on PM hunts in the woods. (It' not a single shot, but will include it anyway.) I'm steadfast in that the Striker and I are going to "bond" this year. [Razz] I did a good job of making a complicated answer of an easy question, didn't I. [Roll Eyes] Gary T.

T/C Nut:

Yes, I have tried the Nosler 125 BT's. Load favors 24.5 grains of RL 7 and runs an average velocity of 2250 fps.

I used this load on an early season antelope hunt in Western Wyoming. I was a bit undergunned as I found out the hard way. I can hit stuff out to 200 yards off a bipod rest, but the only shot I was able to get was a 300 yard shot in a 40 mph cross wind. Had the elevation correct but the windage was more than I ever imagined.

The gun also favors Hornady 110 V-Max's, 130 SSP's and Lee mold #90361. This bullet was designed by C.E. Harris and is a micro banned bullet. Weighs 170 grains w/gas check. SR4759 is the powder of choice with this bullet.

I even shoot Nosler 165 BT's on occasion just to clean out the leading.

BCB: I also own a T/C 14" hunter barrel in 7-30 Waters. I have never been able to get it to shoot cast bullet worth a darn. Only cast bullet I have tried is Lee mold #90360 130 gr. RN under various powders from Red Dot to SR 4759. No luck. Any help would be appreciated.

My next purchase after Christmas is a 12" 357 Mag barrel which I am sending to David White to be rechambered with Mike Bellm's reemer to a 357 Maximum. Need a tree stand gun w/open sights.

After that a 12" 25-20 Win is on my list for next spring. I plan on putting on a red dot sight for coon hunting. This little baby will only see cast bullets.

Glad my wife never reads my posts or I would be devorced by the end of the week. Ha Ha.

My most accurate barrel is my Virgin Valley 14" 300-221. The one that is the most fun to shoot is my Fox Ridge 13" 25-35. If i am deer hunting i use the 7-30 Waters. OOps almost forgot. I have a 14" Virgin Valley 17 Rem. that's never been fired. If i ever get around to fireing it i guess that could move into first place.

My 7.82 (30 cal.) Patriot XP-100 Center-Grip pushing a 180 grain Sierra Game King (B.C. .501) @ 2788. Over-kill for short range but I am just really enjoying it. I am getting both the accuracy and the velocity I had hoped for.

P.S. At sscoyote's house right now getting ready to head over to the SW part of Col. for elk hunting.
