Does anybody have any good loads for 357 Herrett? I have 2) barrels and can't get either to shoot worth a darn. I have a 30 Herret that shoots 1" at 100yards but can't get any thing near 1" with the 357.

Here are a couple that shot very well for me: 25 grains WW296 under a Nosler 180 grain Silhouette (this bullet expands very well out to 200 yards). This load gives you around 1900 fps from a 14 inch barrel. Another, and I believe this was straight from the Sierra book at the time, was 30 grain H4227 under the 158 grain Sierra JSP for app. 2300 fps. This load, while very accurate, was also quite destructive. It did well on behind-the-shoulder shots on deer and was terrific on varmints. I am at work and don't have my old notes, but these two I clearly remember. In the next day or so, I'll post a couple others for you to try. As always, start a couple grains lower and work up with all due caution. Bobby Μολὼν λαβέ The most important thing in life is not what we do but how and why we do it. - Nana Mouskouri

My 357 Herrett load uses IMR 4227 with Hornady 158 gr. XTPs. It will do about 1.5 inch 3 shot groups at 100 yards and was good enough to take a black wildebeest with as well as a couple of smaller animals.

One more point, the Hornady reloading manual states that the 357 Herrett get the best accuracy near maximum loads and I've found this to be true. My load is a tiny bit over the maximum published load.

My .357 herrett shoots everything I put in it under 1" @ 100. My hunting load is a 200 gr hornady spire point with 26 gr. 4227. One day I shot a 5 shot group from the bench all inside 1" and decided to throw a 158 gr. XTP load on top the group. It printed about one inch to the left of the group. I shoot a 212 gr. cast bullet for fire foarming my brass I never expected them to shoot I just wanted cheap bullets to fire foarm with. They shoot right along with all the others.
