Going out with it for sure 1 day as I have the whole week off for PA's deer season. Starts Dec. 1st. I'm planning to take a different handgun out each day. Got some 235's loaded for the 375-06.

To eachs own Wade, but er uh is that some what over kill on a little bitty ole deer? LOL, and I thought mss was bad shooting chucks with a 444, lol.
From the looks of the deer and your report of internal damage it must been tumbling, eh.

Also approx. what range was the deer and where was the tree between you and the deer. Just curious as to what exactly the bullet did after striking the tree.

THE DEER WAS ABOUT 75YDS AND THE TREE WAS ABOUT HALF WAY.THE OTHER 2 DEER SHOT THE BULLET DID A GREAT JOB.I THINK ALL THE DAMAGE WAS BECAUSE OF THE TREE.NO THE BULLET WAS NOT TUMBLING UNTILL THE LAST WHEN IT WENT INTO THE SHOULDER IT WAS A STRAIGHT PATH ALL THE WAY DOWN THE RIBS INTO THE SHOULDER.WHEN IT WENT OUT OF THE CHEST INTO THE SHOULDER THE BULLET LEFT A HOLE THE SAME SIZE AS IT IS NOW.BUTI AM NO DOCTOR AND COULD BE WRONG IT JUST BROKE ALL THE RIBS AND WSS PUSHING BINE ALL THE WAY
KEN IT IS 17.5" LONG

Wade, interesting. I thought maybe the bullet had went into a yaw after passing through the tree. You guys give a whole new meaning to thumper. Raw horse power along with the energy the heavy bullets carry is a hard one to replace.
Thanks.

erine; i have not heard from in awhile.how are you doing? seen you have done good this hunting season.,congrats.
well up my sleeve now is a xp-100 in 50 off the 460 weaherby case from SSK.600gr at 1900fps and 300gr at 3000fps.i have my doubt about the 300gr bullets, but have ran it threw accuload and it sayd it will be close.
then i am still thinking about a xp-100 on another ultra mag case goin to talk to fiftydriver and see what we come up with.maybe a 375 or 6mm,6.5mm,7mm i know going smaller is not like me but we will see.with the 50 xp and the 300 rum xp dont know where to go.300 does 3300fps with 125gr dont think one of the smaller rum cases is going to match it.but a 35 rum with 225 nosler bt should do a great long range thumper. wade

Wade,
I am doing great. Elk season was good for me. The range wasn't excessive, but I couldn't be more proud of the group the Patriot shot in the field.
I think you either have the title or are very close to it when it comes to having the most & biggest cartridges/calibers in specialty handguns.
How fast does your 300 RUM push a 180 grain? I'm curious to how close my Patriot XP (15.75 inch barrel @ 2788 MV w/180 SGK)is. I thought for a while about rebarreling my 284 Win XP, since someone was interested in buying that barrel, dies, etc., but it would take quite a bit more to do another project so for now the 284 barrel is staying. I just doubt I could get enough to make the other barrel, dies, brass, neck turner, dies affordable. So my next 2 projects are to get a G-2 and have a 30 Alaskan built on a Shilen SS 1-14 twist select match barrel. I want to see what can be accomplished accuracy wise and velocity wise (safely) in a G-2. The other project will be a 6mm-284 or a 6mm Rem Ackley Improved barrel for my MOA Maximum with a twist set-up for VLD's. I can get the 6-284 project done for under $350. Let me know what your next project is. When I had my 338 Win Mag Encore and the Patriot XP built I didn't know hardly anyone with these types of cartridges in specialty handguns. Now cartridges like that are much more common. For awhile I felt like the only (especially with the Patriot XP) one back then, now you guys are way ahead of me. It's nice having more people to plow the ground for the rest of us to figure out what works best and what doesn't. Have a great week and a wonderful Thanksgiving.

I AM DOING GREAT STILL ON VACTION TILL DEC.1 JUST SHOT THE 416REM MAG IT IS A PUSSY CAT NOW.350GR SPEER MAG TIP 2100FPS FIRST LOAD OUT.DEVATION WAS GREAT SO I KNOW I HAVE ROOM TO MOVE UP.LAST THREE SHOTS INTO 3"AT 100YDS. WITH A 25MPH CROSSWIND MADE HOLDING GUN A LITTLE TOUGH PLUS THAT PUT THE WIND CHILL DOWN TO 15.
THE RUM IS DOING RIGHT AT 3000FPS WITH 104GR OF RETUMBO AND THE 180 NOSLER BT SO I HIT MY MARK.BUT IT BLOWN OUT A PRIMER OUT OF 20 ROUNDS SO I BACKING DOWN TO 2900FPS OR SO I THINK MY BEST GROUP WAS RIGHT AROUND 2900.THE 190 HORNADY IS DOING GREAT AT 2725FPS AND PUT 5 INTO 2" AT 200YDS SHOT 3 AND LOOKED GREAT RISKED IT PUT THE OTHER 2 IN AND A VERY NICE GROUP.
YEA AROUND HERE EVERYONE POINTED AT ME STAYED AWAY FROM ME WHEN I WENT TO THE RANGE.NOW THEY WONT LEAVE ME ALONE WHILE I AM SHOOTING.YOU CAN STILL HEAR THEM WHISPER WHEN THEY WALK AWAY, BUT THEY WANT YOU TO TEACH THEM HOW TO RELOAD AND TO WORK UPLOADS.I GIVE OUT MY PHONE NUMBER MORE AT THE RANGE THAN WHEN I AM AT THE BAR WORKING.I THINK THEIR A FEW OUT THERE FARTHER THAN ME J.D.JONES FOR ONE.BUT I DO WHAT I CAN FOR THE SPORT AND IT IS DAMN TOUGH JOB!!!!!YOU AND YOUR FAMILY HAVE A GREAT THANKSGIVING.ONE DAY WE ARE ALL GOING TO HAVE TO GET TOGETHER.I WOULD LIKE TO MEET YOU,FIFTYDRIVER AND A FEW OTHERS. Wade,
Well, I am a member of range to where we can shoot out to 600 yards. And just North of here you can hunt plains elk (a cow) for right at $500. Bulls can be hunted also, but the price goes up. I mentioned on a another forum for those wanting to hunt elk without having to be in the mountains might be a good opportunity to get together sometime to do both shooting and hunting (of course all with handguns). At least it is a possibility. I would like to get together with a number of the guys on the forum too. Another option would be to all attend one Don Bower's Long Range Handgun Clinics. What do you think about that?

"handcannons" Congrats on the deer. People always give me a hard time for shooting what I see and with a handgun but most of the time they go away empty handed. Your deer picture reminds me of a deer that I shot with a 30-06 on the run about 6' away. It came out of the tall weeds seen me turned around and started back in. All I could see was hair in the scope, the bullet went in the top of the back tumbled around and came out blowing off one of the front feet (hooves). My dad seen the shot and couldn't believe I hit it from so close. [Big Grin]
