My guess is 50 AE. The same as the Destert Eagle. I could be wrong though.

I heard this on the Paul Harvey radio show today myself. He stated the new round had 3 times the muzzle velocity of the 44 magnum in a pistol. I either think he meant to say muzzle ENERGY or his facts are totally bogus.

Check over at the 'smith site to see if there is any info over there.

JD Jones has 500 S&W Encore barrels listed on his web page.

Mr. Harvey made an oops. He might have meant Foot Lbs... dunno.

We're talking 440gr bullets in the 15-1600fps range. A 50Ae like case with a small rim... only MUCH longer. I don't think you'd WANT to shoot it in a contender, even if it could take it.

Not in the near future unless there is a large call for them. There may be, but it's too early to tell.

Just read another article where S&W states they are overwhelmed with the orders for the new gun and cannot keep up.
Corbon has loads already 440gr at over 1600 fps and 2500 ft. lbs.
Now that is a Hammer in a revolver.

Well Fellas. I just placed an order for a 500 S&W reamer. So I guess that means that you can have one if you want to. I think I may have to try one out in my encore, but the 475 Linebaugh seems to work alright for now.

Anybody know which ammo company is producing it?

As a side note... it's HUGE and has the weight to go with it. A 10" scoped contender is an ultra light weight and a joy to carry compaired to that S&W monster.

I got to handle on of the Smiths at the Shot Show yesterday and I was very impressed. It's a good looking revolver and although a bit front heavy it felt quite good in the hand.

I have "average" hand strength and quite large hands... It really didn't feel nearly as heavy as I expected and balance was good.

I'd like to have one although I imagine I'd be looking for a cast bullet and Unique powder load for it pretty quick. [Eek!]

They had it next to a Model 29 and it made the 29 look like a pocket pistol... LOL....

They have a big huge barrel one that looks like something out of a bad Sci-fi movie, and a "snubby" 4 inch-ish one that looks great, but not one you want to shoot too many (if any) full loads in.

Me... I'll stick with the little tiny old fasion revolvers. [Smile]
