Lone Hunter10 " 444 Marlin Contender
Does anyone have one? And has anyone shot one over a crony to see how fast it can push a 240 grain bullet?
LH,
It would be a nasty thing for sure. I would go with the 445 super mag in a 10 incher and you should get about the same volocity without all that unburnt powder. Too much powder in that big triple 4 brass to burn in that short barrel.

Magnum MikeI agree with Jules. A lot of powder to try and burn in a 10" tube. The 445 is actually more effecient in the 14" barrel than the 444, no real surprise. The 445 would be cool but it just aint a triple 4!!

pahandgunhunterPlanning on chrono'ing Sat 6/28/2003 will post results
Bill
Results:
Behind 52grs of H322 a 240 gr. Win Bullets out of my 10" rechamber travels at 1627,1635, and 1685.
The average is 1649. I believe this is what the 44mag does in a 14" barrel.
Great little gun to carry then putting a deer drive on.

Magnum MikeSounds good, looking forward to see the results and comparing to a 10" 44mag.

Magnum MikeI have not chrono'd my 10" 44mag loads but would imagine that it comes fairly close. Not much gain in a 10" barrel but STILL would be COOL!!

Lone HunterThanks for the info. I cronyed my 10"44 Mag but lost the info. Maybe next weekend I will get back to the range. Has anyone cronyed a 445 SM out of a 10" barrel? It would be interesting to compair.

Magnum MikeIf I remember, i will chrono my 10" 44mag this weekend. They are a fairly hot 240 load.....
EDIT: I hate to admit it BUT in a 14" or less barrel the 445sm is more effecient. It might just be the perfect mix for the shorter barrels. I still aint givin up me 444!!

Magnum MikeWell, if you are ready to go with the 445, that is the direction i would take! The 445 will do everything the 444 will do in the 10"er and probably ditto for the 14"er. The 445 is no slouch..... The only reason to git the 444 is just for the BIG CASE.
