Ever buy a new TC barrel to find that the chamber/throat was installed crooked to the bore?

I did recently, and even with the proof of chamber casts TC says it is good enough for me to shoot.

Here's a write-up on Mike Bellm's site. I am the third party he talks about.

Missaligned chamber/throat

When the barrel was returned, the note with it said it was "repaired." I poured another chamber cast right away, and it is identical to the one I poured before sending them this barrel. That is the cast that Mike shows the pictures of.

Additionally, their note said that they shot 2 boxes of shells (I'm assuming 40 shots) and did manage to shoot a 1 1/2" group. I don't believe it to begin with, this barrel has never shot better than 3-4" groups with factory or any of the different handloads I've fed it. Also, 1 1/2" isn't good enough even if it would do this consistantly. My 30-30AI barrel will shoot 1/2" groups all day long.

I did speak with TC's service manager before sending the barrel in to them, and do plan on calling him again tomorrow to see if this can be worked out. Any other suggestions other than just throwing this barrel away?

What caliber is the barrel? You might have a Bellm or other custom chamber cut that will remove the old one.

I'd love to do that, Dennis, but it's already a 375JDJ, which I think is about the maximum for a G2 contender already.

Thanks for the good suggestions.

I spoke with TC's Service Department Manager, Roland Eldridge, again this morning.

Bottom line is that Roland agreed to exchange this crooked chambered 375JDJ barrel with the SSK Arrestor muzzle brake on it for a TC 375 Winchester barrel with TC's muzzle brake installed.

I'll then be sending it off to one of the custom gun smith places (Bellm, OTT, Bullberry) to have it chambered correctly and install a 6-screw Weaver base again. Then I'm positive I'll have a "shooter" and be happy.

Cold Rider -

Have you thought about having Mike post an update on the page you linked to above? Now that T/C is going to replace the barrel, it might be good to have that info over there, too.

Regards.

Once I actually get the new barrel (in 375 Winchester) from TC I'll be asking Mike if he can chamber it to 375 JDJ for me. Then we'll discuss a followup.

Good idea. I'm really interested to hear how it all turns out.

When do you expect to see your new barrel?

I started calling the TC service manager every freekin' day. The conversations were getting more and more heated on my part.

New TC bbl (375 Winchester with TC's brake on it) finally shoed up at my door.

It's been sent out to Mike Bellm for a rechamber to 375JDJ.

TC's Customer Service STILL leaves a whole bunch to be desired in my book. They tried to snowball me into just keeping a bbl that they cut the chamber crooked in to. That's after I sent them plenty of proof in the form of pictures. They didn't want me to send them a chamber cast (I offered), nor did they do one themselves. I guess it's about the MONEY to TC.

I only got satisfaction after telling the TC's SM that my next step was going to be putting it in front of a Judge in MI's small claims court, after that statement, the SM decided "to keep you as a valued customer, I'll replace the (crooked chambered) bbl we sold you" I told him, "Yeah right, you just don't want to lose your job because you've been jacking me around over this, and you are dead wrong."

I'll never, ever, buy another factory bbl with the intent on shooting it as TC chambers it. For less than $100 a bbl can be chambered by any number of good gun smiths where you will get the chamber cut straight to the bore and have a good throat cut.

Enough ranting, this BS is done. Now I'm just waiting on Mike Bellm.

coldrider It's amazing how companies respond when one states they're taking action in court. I had to do it after being jerked around by a pc company and I informed them of my intentions got my CC credited.

Wish the hell something like this would have worked with Shooting Chrony when they screwed me out of one.

My fault, shot the face out of one with a bp/patch. Contacted them about having it replaced. sure send it tozzzz. $35.

I did, months, never heard. Finally 8 months later got a letter: "rec'd your damaged chrony, please remit $85"

Wrote back, included acopy of the first letter. "What happened to the $35 quote???"
Haven't heard back yet, 6 yrs later.

After jacking around with them and no reply, wrote a cover letter then my nasties went to every seller of the product I could find. Believe there was 14 different places that sell this brand.
Only reply came from Lock Stock & Barrel where I bought it from.
"rec'd your letter about no reply from S/C, will check into it and contact you". I'm still waiting for the next reply. Wrote several more times and never got a reply again from them either. Have given up. Am trying to let everyone know so they'll think about it when buying a chronograph.

Thank you for the consideration,

George
