I've been shooting a .25-220 Swift in a Contender for years now. My round is called the .257 Dart, and dimensionally it's very similar to a .250-3000 Ackley. An article to include performance and load data is posted to my website.

The load I am using in my XP is 40.0 grains of Varget with a 100 grain NBT seated @ 2.236 OAL.
This is maximum load in my XP, so please don't start there.

I have a standard 250 savage in a contender a ssk barrel. I get about 2650fps with a 85gr nosler BT It seems to work great on deer as long as you don't ask it to go through much bone. It will open up on fox and big northern hares out to about 250-275yds. The improved version should do better due to the friction of the straiter case walls. In a strong actioned rifle, it will do all a 257 robberts will and more. It is a great low recoil round for varmits and up to deer.

From earlier correspondence, Mark is not considering this round (250 Sav. AI) for use in a Contender, but rather an Encore or XP-100. With about 10% more case capacity than it's parent case it is a very viable wildcat proposition. Sierra uses this cartridge to do their daily control accuracy testing (that ought to say something about accuracy potential).

Their most accurate load was 41.0 of RE-15 with a muzzle velocity of 3200 fps from a 26 inch barrel.
