I bought a box of Hornady 35gr V-max to shoot out of my super 14" Contender. Has anybody else x-perimented with this bullet? 1st try wasn't to bad using info based on a 40gr pill. Killing time waiting for things to warm up around here and figured I could work up some loads if anybody had some. Thanks: Dave"Pie-bald"Iams

I have tried them.....Big Mistake in my SST super 14 I can seat them out to the rifling but the groups were just JUNK no matter the powder I tried.

i loaded a few for my ar 15 i think they had 25 gr of varget i could get 4100 fps out of them. i could get 25 gr in remington brass, i also use pmc but couldnt get that much in i think they had 24 gr and would do 3800 fps. i have a 24'' 1-9 barrel so they were probly to much twist for them i didnt check accuracy i was just playing with them at 50 yards jasom

I used to shoot them in my T/C .222
STubby little bullets a mile away from the lands... I thought the wouldn't shoot worth a hoot, but they grouped very nice, in the neighborhood of1/2". My loads were just guessed. I think I just used the same IMR 4198 load that I used for the 40gr Nos.BT's

Thanks for info. The load I tried was with Varget and the first 3 shots @ 50yds were less than 3/8" the next 2 made the group about 5/8". Had real bad vision that day because of snow and the COLD temps.

I shot some of those 35 grain V-Max bullets in a 22 PPC. They did reasonably well at my indoor 100 yd test range with groups about 3/8" to 3/4". However, when shooting at prairie dogs at ranges from 200 to 350 yds they were pretty poor. With that stubby nose the velocity drops off pretty fast and then they wander. At ranges of 200 yds they seldon would hold on a prairie dog sized target. By the time they get out to 300 yds, the velocity has fallen off enough they drop very fast.

I'd rather be able to hit what I'm shooting at.
