I stopped by the gunshop today and noticed a Weatherby pistol there in 22-250 with a blued action and stainless fluted barrel.
Anyone here have any experience with these pistols? Are they worth $800.00?

Are they worth it? No...

Will you find one cheaper then that? Probably not at retail price...

THey are a quality handgun but the very few I have played with did not impress me conpared to a quality XP-100 which if you already own one, could be reworked into pretty much anything that would feed through the action and perform much better then the Wby handgun.

To be fair the two I played with, both 22-250's shot under 1 moa with all loads tested but nothing exceptional. Most groups ran in the 3/4 to near 1" range.

Not bad but not good for an $800 rig in my honest opinion.

Of course as a gunsmith I look at every factory rifle as a beginning platform of what could become of the firearm. This is where the XP really shines over the Wby and for less money as well.

The XP's are getting harder to find but they are out there for around $400 to $500 for the factory plastic stocked versions.

I would choose one of these always over the Wby handgun just as I would choose the M700 over the MkV for building an extreme accuracy rifle on.

HEY,I HAVE TO AGREE I HAVE HAD 3 OF THESE THINGS.2 IN 308 ONE 22-250,I HAD ONE 308 UNFIRED SOLD IT FOR $600 WAS GLAD TO GET RID OF IT. WADE

That gun is probably not worth $800 as a shooter. However if you could find the right Weatherby collector it may well be worth every penny. Weatherby only made a limited number of them. Japan threw a fit when they realized that handguns were being manufactured in their country. So, there are not a lot of those guns floating around out there.

You might contact Weatherby to see what they say it is worth.
