The Air Force has seen fit to transfer us to The Presidio and after reading the info on the Kal. Dept. of Justice I'm still not sure if it is OK to take our Encore pistols to Kalifornia with me. Also is it considered concealable, does that mean I will have to register it and pay the $19.00 fee per pistol?

You can bring any pistal that has passed the Kalifucing (sp.?) drop test at the cost of 19 dollers each and to my understanding only one a month. The T/C just got an exsemption from the drop test. By the way, I would only bring what is needed and leave the rest with family/ freinds in another state. 338vt

I live in California and own a couple of Contender frames with several different barrels and an Encore handgun. I believe there are some allowances made for active duity service people in this state, and yes it is now leagle to buy TC handguns in California again, so you should have no problems bringing your gun into this state.

There are a couple of things you may need to be aware of. All guns in California are required to be transported in locked cases. The case doesn't have to be a hard case but must have a lock or a locking devise, eithered keyed or combination lock. This used to be a requirement for just pistols but now long arms have also been included. This is one of those laws that's not enforcible and is generally ignored by most sportsmen but could get one into some serious troubles if someone wanted to throw the book at you.

The other thing you need to be aware of is that you can't have access to your firearms and your amunition for them at the same time and be leagle in California. So if you have the gun in the car, the ammo is suposed to be in the trunk. The ammo can't be carried in the locked gun case with the firearm leagly.

Cities can have their own rules, and I blieve the city of San Francisco has some additional restrictions over and above the state's, so you will need to check that out also. But the fact that you are in the service may, and hopefully will, cut you some slack in that regard...Rusty.

Thanks for the info, I spent a year on the left coast and loved it, just didn't like the politics. But that is getting to be the problem more and more else where also.

338vt The drop test on contenders and encores is null & void new legislation was signed by the gov last year and went into effect this year, when buying an encore or contender handgun one must buy the complete weapon with barrel.SF did pass an ordinance banning handguns but it's been challenged by the NRA,police officers,CRPA and others.etc.Check your status if you're living on a military reservation .I own some encores with pistol barrels in 454casull and 30-06.As soon as the law changed on single shot pistols I purchased a new Encore pistol with a 15" 223 barrel .NRA Wins San Francisco Gunban Lawsuit, Sup Ct Judge overturns SF gun Ban
