Anyone else use a Lone Eagle in 358 Win? If so what powder and bullets, or experiences?

I do not have a Lone Eagle, I shoot an Encore. Try 47.5 grs. of IMR 4895, Fed 210 Primer, Winchester case with a 225 gr. Sierra Spitzer Boattail. I have killed several deer and one wild hog, this load and bullet have worked very well for me. This just my opinion take it for its worth. DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR

I don't use a .358, but I have a contender in .357 maximum that was chambered on a .358 bore. I've had really good results with the hornady 180gr SP on shots from 5 to 200 yards on whitetails. All bullets exited, even shoulder shots. The 225gr sierras are also a great bullet for that caliber.

The 358 win in the lone eagle is a very effective round. This fall I have killed an antelope at 315 paces and a mule deer at 268 yards (range finder), both with one shot. I use 47 gr h322, 180 ssp horniday bullet that are 2452 fps. It is 4.5 inches high at 100, back on at 250 and 24 inches low at 400. The deer was a high shoulder shot and it went through both shoulders and the spine before lodging against the skin. The antelope was a clear pass though the heart. Both were dead when I got to them olefish

Thanks olefish for the load, I have used more 225 ballistic tips and 250 horn sp. Just picked up 2 boxes Horn 180 ssps and will give them a try. The 250s definitly get your attention- Still no brakes though, just fire fewer rounds at a time. Bonus is makes 44 mag or hot 45 colt seem like a 38 special.

Lynn the trick with the lone eagle is the bullet seating depth. My OL is 2.7 which puts it about 006 off the lands. Youn need to messure your own chamber. This is how I did mine. Step 1. Insert a bullet into the neck of a unprimed resized case. Do not fully seat the bullet but seat it deep enough that it is gripped fully by the cartridge neck. Step 2. Using a black magic marker or dykem steel layout blue, color the entire bullet. Step 3. Insert the case and bullet into the chamber of the firearm and gently start to close the action. Stop as soon as you feel resistance. Step 4. Remove the cartridge from the chamber, now look at the bullet, it should have well defined marks where the bullet contacted the rifling in the barrel. Step 5. Continue seating the bullet deeper and chambering the cartridge until you only feel a slight amount of resistance when the bolt is closed completely. There should only be marks left on the bullet from the lands of the barrel. Step 6. Now take another resized casing and with your bullet seating die set, repeat seating another bullet in the cartridge case to verify that this is your maximum cartridge length Olefish

olefish, Thanks for the tip, I haven't checked the oal on the 180s yet. Instead of dykem I've been using magic marker, just bit more convient. I have to wait a bit as my shoulder is giving me grief and I know the Lone Eagle is not the therapy needed at the moment. Thanks, Lynn
