For those that may be in the neighborhood ole Ed (Ed's Contenders) will be doing a gun show this coming weekend at the fairgrounds in Okla. City.

We'll have a whole island (eight tables) of TC products, brass, scopes, dies, ammo etc layed out......stop by and give us a shout.

I have been there once before but I don't really remember the way. Can you give me directions from Tulsa? Is this a Sooner show or Metcalf?

Thanks

Dennis

Dennis,

It's either a R&K or Sooner show and is normally one of the biggest in the OKC area.

Take I-40 West through downtown OKC and exit on May Ave., go N. aprox a mile (through the stoplight at Reno) and the fairgrounds will be on your left.

Then at the very next light, after the Reno light and opposite a lumber yard, turn west off of May Ave. into the fairgrounds and you'll see a very large long building with a "Gun Show" sign hanging the above door on both the north and south entrances.....you're there !

I guess I will have to pass on the OKC show if there is any chance that it is an RK show. I won't even go to them when they are in Tulsa. When I go to a gunshow I like to look at guns. In my opinion and the opinions of others I have talked to, the RK shows are nothing more than a collection of garage sale leftovers with some Beany Babies and junk fishing tackle thrown in. 99.9% of my Contender and Encore equipment has been brought from Ed so I don't intend this to be a flame at you or him, it is just an opinion I have formed after going to RK shows in the past.

In the paper today it's being billed as, "The Sooner Hall of Fame Gun and Knife Show".

DennisF, did ya make it down to the gun show and visit with Ed and his employees?
I made a trip Sat and Sun and they finally beat me into submission and I came away with a new Custom Shop 6.5 Rem Mag barrel for my Encore.
Almost got a SSK 6-284 also but I like the 6.5 round better. They are a great bunch. That Van, Ed's high paid parts changer Big Grin did a good job on the trigger in the Encore. Ike made sure I had everything I needed to hurt myself with this new cannon. nut He did tell me to NOT bring it out to HIS silhouete shoot and shoot HIS steel targets. My entry fee would go up considerably. eek2
Ike, could you find it in your heart to send me the load info on the 6.5 Rem Mag so I don't have to get a loan for more ammo in the factory stuff. Eeker

Mike you make it sound like I had to darn near club you with the barrel to get you to take it out the door. As I recall you darn near threw your shoulder out of place reaching for your wallet after I dug it out for you. Smiler

As far as the trigger job goes I nonchalantly mentioned to Vann, after his first attempt that made it a lot better, to give it another shot and when he did you could definitely feel the difference.

That barrel was brand new and unfired when I borrowed it from Ed to play with a few months ago has been broke it in properly.

After I broke the barrel in (50 rounds) I pet loaded it with Hornady 129gr SSt's, H4831 and CCI 250 mag primers with a OAL of 3.063.

In the Hodgdon's book (26" brl. data) it shows a min of 53.5grs for 2854fps and a max of 58.0grs for 3155fps.

Wanting to load it down somewhat for silhouettes I loaded five rounds each of 52.0 through 54.0grs.

It was cold, wet, windy and nasty out when I went to the range to do the the pet loads but three of the six I loaded showed extremely good accuracy but I just never made it back to the range, to retry those three, before I gave the barrel back to Ed and moved on to something else......the loads were 52.5grs, 53.5grs and 54.0grs.

I was also going to give Varget a try next but just didn't get around to it.

I think you'll be very pleased with the barrel....just curious, how did the Rem. factory stuff shoot ? ?

For those that may be interested Ed has one more 15" heavy barrel in 6.5 Rem Mag. on hand. It's a unfired Fox Ridge heavy barrel with a matte finish.

By the way, my newest barrel had come in earlier last week from the Fox Ridge Custom Shop and Ed had it waiting on me Saturday morning, it's a 15" heavy barrel 7mm08.

Gary you can reach Ed at 405-879-0879, I've found the best time to get him on that number is between 9:00 and 10:30 a.m. local but just leave a message on the machine if he doesn't pick up.....I can't honestly recall the price but I know it's in the low 200's.

He's also got 6.5 Rem. Mag dies, Rem. factory ammo and maybe some brass.

I didn't get to make it to the show this weekend, I think I got some bad turkey and spent the weekend inside with the green apple quick steps. I think the next Sooner show in Tulsa is in Feb. I'll see them then.

IKE, you are right about hurting myself trying to work a deal with Ed. Didn't take me long to write that check. Eeker
I was just going to ask you about the loads you used and there you go and post them. Great.
What about the brass you used. Is it available for a price? Big Grin
I haven't had time to fire the barrel yet. I had to work that BB Game that day and then I worked another on Monday evening. I will be at the range Sat for sure.
By the way, my neighbor called me yesterday and decided he wanted the 7BR barrel I HAD. I told him Ed was the new owner. I called Ed yesterday from Ft Smith, Arkansas and he and I will meet today and I will get it for my neighbor.
I need to find another forend for the encore barrel. Does Ed have them?
Dennis, I will be at the Tulsa show with my hunting buddies from Lawton. They usually have at least two tables.

Mike like I posted above I stopped my pet loads a whole four grains off the max and if you're going to hunt and shoot the long range 500yd stuff you may want to start with a heavier charge.

I guess if you and Ed hooked up this afternoon you probably went ahead and got the 6.5 Rem. Mag dies, what little brass I gave him (I kept some just in case I may want to backup later) and your forend ??

I haven't been to a Tulsa show in several years so I won't make the one in Feb.....between a few OKC shows a year with Ed, mail order and the stores around town I seem to spend plenty of $$$$ on my addiction to firearms locally.

Ed's next OKC show is the end of May, over the Memorial Day weekend, and I plan on being there slaving away. Smiler

Hooked up with Ed on Friday afternoon. Got the 7Br brl, forend, a choke for a 44mag shot barrel and some forend screws. He was rushed and didn't remember where the dies and brass where. I will get them from him soon or at the next gunshow in Feb or order me a set.
