I have yet to get a decent group out of my barrel using RCBS 325 CGC bullet and several powders for loads in the 1200-1450 fps range.

No use shooting anything faster if these won't group! Any ideas out there?

Hey the one thing I found after getting the bore scope . . . the long leade (throat) problem that usually exists in Contender barrels is not a problem in the 45-70.
The chamber ends and the rifling starts full force with NO . . . NO taper at all!

Pushing them faster might make them group.

I shoot Jacketed 300's @ 1650 from my 12" (11" really) barrel.... it would seem to me that with a 14" barrel and lead bullets, that you have a lot more velocity range still to look around in for an acurate load.

Can`t give you any velocities but I shoot 405gr. FP`s from a Magma mould and it shoots great with 42gr. of N120 !
