Anyone out there shoot any of these out of a 357 Max 357 Herrett yet? What kind of velocity and accuracy.

How about hunting experiences with this bullet?

Surely someone out there has been more energetic than I have about reloading with this bullet and in one of these cartridges!

Guess it is getting close enough to season that I had better get to thinking whether I want to get it ready for this year in one of those cartridges.

I have a bunch I bought perhaps ten years or more ago (prior to the introduction of the various "Single Shot Pistol" type bullets) and I didn't really care for them. I got the impression that they were very "hard".

I had intentions of using them as a game bullet in my 14" .35Rem T/C, and as a varmint bullet in the .35 Whelen. I first tried them in a .35 Whelen and got fair accuracy, but almost no expansion.

I had shot them into my soft sand backstop at 100 yards with my starting loads at an MV of about 2,600 FPS and the noses barely deformed. I thought they were designed for .35 Rem velocities (2,300FPS+/-) and thought for sure they'd just blow up.

I had also loaded some test loads for the .35 Rem at the same time, but didn't bother pursueing them further. Since the bullets didn't expand from the Whelen, I wouldn't expect expansion at .35 Rem velocity either. I shot up the few .35 Rem loads I had for testing, since that was easier than pulling the bullets. Accuracy was again fair and I gave up on them.

I also shoot a Herret and a Max, and never bothered to try the Rem 150's in either caliber after my experience with the Whelen.

I have killed several deer with the Rem 158 JHP in the Maximum and it has worked very well for me too. Any broadside hits resulted in complete penetration and good tissue damage. I recovered a bullet that went diagonal through a small deer quartering away at 75 yards that was a perfect example of the classic "mushroom". It hit at the last left rib and stuck under the hide at the right shoulder/brisket area. I had VERY good accuracy with Speer's 158 JHP revolver bullet in the .357H & .35Rem, but they expanded very rapidly and would have never made that trip.

I've tried these with three different powder combinations in a .358 JDJ and have not gotten decent accuracy with any of the combinations I've tried.

I would think it has something to do with the extremely short bearing surface as far as the mediocre accuracy.

I played with these a few weekends ago. I was able to get around an inch or better accuracy at 100 yards in my 10" 357 herrett using h4227. chronograph was right at 2200 fps. don't know if I trust them to expand very well at this velocity or not.
