Hey guys, Not long ago, I became the proud owner of an SSK 338 JDJ #2 Contender barrel (16" long, but has muzzle brake), buying it off the AR classified ads. Now that I've received my new Cabela's and Bass Pro Shop fall catalogs, I find my mind is beginning to think about the upcoming deer season. Admittedly, I don't really need such a big round for the small whitetail deer here in LA/AR, but you can bet I'm going to use it! Shots will probably be inside 100 yards, but could stretch to 200 yds. I've looked at the load data in teh Hornady Manual (#5), as well as JD's data, but would like your experiences, as well. The barrel came w/ 200 gr NBT and 215 gr Sierra BT so will load them at first. Would the 180 gr NBT (or something else) be a better choice? Of the powders I have available, I'm thinking the best choices will probably be RL 15, H4895, and Varget. Give me some thoughts. Thanks, guys. Gary T. | ||
