Mainer I don't have a 7TCU but have a couple of the most recent loading manuals with data.So all I could give you is listed loads, wouldn't be able to tell you what shoots best.I could at least give you a starting point. Are you looking for any particular weight bullet? Rich Jake

Have any of you guys used this cartridge on deer? What did you use? Bullet weight & Type, Velocity, Etc? What distance was the shot? Also barrel length & maker? Rich Jake

Rich, I used the Sierra 130 SSP. I don't remember what load only that it was AA 2015 BR. The barrel is a factory chamber I was using a B@L scope. The shot was about 100-120 yards, broad side standing. The bullet mushroomed real well but could stand a few more fps. The first whitetail I took with this caliber was one of my more treasured hunts. There was hardly any blood shot meat, just about like a cast bullet. I want to try my 6 TCU this year, but will limit the shot to 100 max. Jeff

Jeff Have you tried AA1680 in the Accurate Arms 2001 Reloaders Guide it lists AA1680 with best velocity for 100,120 grain bullets. Then AA2015Br best velocity with the 140. They don't list the 130 but they list a
120 with AA1680 26.5 - 2226 Fps and they list 140 with AA1680 24.5 - 2010Fps.
So you should be able to go to 25.5 of AA1680 with 130grain bullet. It would be interesting to see how it clocks out. I wonder if the AA1680 would still be better velocity with the 130's or if 2015Br would be better. I have ordered a 21" carbine barrel& Kit from Foxridge Outfitters in 7mm TCU. It won't be here for a few weeks but it should be interesting. I opted for the 7mm Tcu rather than the 6.5mm tcu. At least if I decide that I would like it to be a little faster I could go to 7mm Bellm or 7mm JDJ. Rich Jake

I like the 120gr horn ssp over 27.0 gr of H322. This load has worked for me on deer out to 125yds and is suprisingly deadly. I shoot a 10 inch and liked the round so much, that when I found a 21inch carbine barrel, I made one up and to date, I average about 10-12lbs of gunpowder a year through these two guns. The 7TCU is a fun round!
Elliot I hope that I like the 7 Tcu as much as you do. Did you ever get a chance to chrono your loads from the 21" carbine? I'm curious what kind of velocity you got with it. Rich Jake

I am using AA2015 and Sierra's 130 SSP bullet in a 10" TC barrel. I have not chrono'd this load nor have i shot a deer with it. I can tell you that it is really devastating on woodchucks!
Sierra 130 SSP 25.2 AA2015 WSR primer Winchester cases OAL 2.605"

p.s. i would also like to know the velocity of a 7TCU in a carbine barrel...

Rich,I am with the rest of the guy's on the 7 TCU, I think it is a round that you either love or hate. The first TC I ever shot was a 7 TCU 10", I thought that this thing was the greatest thing since sliced bread. I couldn't believe what it would do with iron sights. That particular barrel loved 748, I haven't had one that particularly liked it. The only notes that I have on 130 grain Sierra SSP is 2180 fps. I have often wished I had a 7 mm carbine, but since I got my 6 mm it has taken top priority. As far as the 1680 compared to the 2015, I talked to Carrol at Sierra and at the time 2015 was the powder to use. I was shooting 150's most of the time (silhouette's) but I am looking at the 140's a lot more. If you try this in a carbine and don't like it give me a holler and we can work somthing out. But I really think it will be a keeper. Also the 2015 gives me a pretty full case, which in turn doesn't shift around. I think this keeps my SD way down. Elliot, what is the difference in velocity from the 10" to the 21" ? And are you using the same load? Jeff

My best load yet has been 30gr Accurate 2230 under 120gr Nosler Ballistic Tip,W-W case and BR-4 primer. Overall length in my barrel is 2.600. After sighting in my new(to me) Simmons 2.5-7 about 3 weeks ago, the last 3 rounds touched each other at 100 yds. I was so impressed that I decided to do some plinking. At 100 yds this load will nail empty 12 guage shells while shooting from the bench.
Below are the loads I use for hunting and silhouette, the hunting load has put several deer in the freezer over the years and the IHMSA load has accounted for it's share of 40x40's.....both are off the rack TC factory barrels and will shoot at or under 1" scoped and off bags at 100yds.
10" barrel hunting load; 29.0grs of IMR4895 under a Sierra #7250 130gr SSP with a OAL of 2.678
14" barrel silhouette load; 26.0grs of IMR4895 under a 140gr Sierra #1910 with a OAL of 2.693.
Thanks guys for the responses.I am anxious to get started, but it will be a couple of weeks before that will happen. It's good to know that I have some people around who are familuar with it & I can ask questions if I run into problems. Rich Jake

Rich, a quick note. When you neck the brass up don't push the shoulder back on the 223 brass. If you do it can really get discouraging as to what the problem is. It can cause misfire split brass etc, along with poor group size. Your fire forming loads should be as accurate as a formed case with the same load. Jeff

Good to be here, great board and thanks for giving me a heads up on this board Jules!
I picked up a 24" carbine barrel in 7tcu for my wife, I've only fireformed some loads so far and don't have a chrono, but I'd really like to see what you guys are getting from your loads in the carbine.
The barrel was an anniversary gift, maybe the wife could use a chronograph for her birthday.

Pinkerton, Welcome. For your wife on your anniversary, you are a lucky man. My girl friend of two years figured out after six months that they were "hers" were ours. Have a great gal myself and she loves to shoot. Hmmm, maybe I could tell her the 14" 7TCU I just bought is for Easter. Jeff

I have killed two deer with 7TCU and I was using Nosler 120BT. AA2015 about 26 grs. Both deer dropped in their tracks. After reading the first post on 7 TCU I called Ed's and got a new 14 inch 7TCU barrel. Was delivered Friday and away to the range tomorrow to shoot. I am also interested in 21 inch vel.
Well guys once I get my barrel I will have to shoot it over the Chronograph. I am very encouraged by the post you guys have put up.Tommy if you have a chrono let us know your results. Rich Jake

If I can find my chron I will. I married 7 months ago and all my shooting stuff has been boxed in an extra bedroom. My new wife has bought me a 8x12 shop (complete with AC). I'm getting everything set up now and can't wait to start loading and shooting. I can't believe all the stuff I had. I was single for 12 years and all two bedrooms set up for my guns and reloading stuff. By the way stopped by a gun shop this morning after spending the night at the lake and they had a ss contender frame for sale. Told the new wife about it and she said get it. New Wife not for trade. He He
The 7 accounted for another woodchuck today!! I blasted him at approx 87 yards off hand with the above mentioned load. It was a classis shoulder shot and he flopped around a bit but died on the spot.
Gotta love the 7TCU!

No I didn't get a chance to chro because I had a real problem getting my cases to chamber and it didn't get any better after fireforming. I had to contact TC and they are sending me a new extractor which will work. Pulled the old extractor and cases chambered fine. Kind of a bust trip to the range. Will go again this weekend. Tommyn
Tommyn Sorry to hear about the problems. I'm really interested in the velocities that you are getting out of that length barrel. Please post it once you get everything working right. Thanks Rich Jake

After reading through the posts, I went to my files, and I have not run my carbine load for a velosity referance. I just started shooting my same load that I have been shooting in my 10 inch. I was getting 3/4 inch 100yd groups and to me that is good for such a light weight gun. I tucked it in my truck, and have been happly shooting stuff on the farm ever since. Gophers to deer, what fun. I may have to see what this load is doing, when I do, I will let you know.
Rained here in SW Mo all day and didn't have a chance to go to the range. I got the new extractor for my 7TCU barrel installed and works like a charm now. Ready for new weekend unless I feel kind of puny in the middle of the week and need to recharge (go to the range) Its hard when you are old to work all week especially when you have had the same job for 43 years. He He Will post Chro results as soon as possible.
I fired a few rouonds today in hte carbine. I am quite suprised that I only averaged 2311fps in the carbine and the 120's. This is a bit slower than I thought it would be. It could also mean that my barrel is getting tired from all the shooting it has done. When testing, I shot a few 100yd 3-shot groups, and it is now shooting 2.5 inch 3-shot groups. Boy a few years and 5-6 thousand rounds can make adifferance. But, I think critters are still in danger! Let me know if anyone else gets a good load for the carbine.
Elliot, i am shocked! I would have thought that velocities would have been closer to the 3k mark.... Have you ever chrono'd that load in the 10" pistol?

Thanks Elliot I don't think that you posted your load.If you didn't could you please post it anyway. I believe that you said you got pretty good results with that load & I would still be interested in it. Rich Jake

My load is 27.0gr of H322 and the horn 120gr ssp with a cci 400 primer. In the 10 inch I get just a tick under 2000fps. In the 21 inch carbine same load, 2311fps average. Perhaps I will work up a carbine only load and see if I can get the speed up a bit. I am glad that none of the deer that have been taken with load can read. It is less than I thought it was, but it still has worked. I hope this is of some help. Elliot
Thanks Elliot It is a good reference point. The velocity that you have seems to be working well(on Game),but I wonder what could be achieved with the right/different load.I've seen data that near 2300 in 14" barrel is possible.Although what you have is working well for you. Rich Jake

My carbine barrel is a factory one. It really has had a lot of lead go through it. I was expecting more in the range of 2600fps in the carbine, when there are listed velosities of 2400fps in the 14 inch barrels.
Well, i was gonna chrono my "7" loads today. I have not used my chrono in years (have not been shooting in the last 5 years much), I got it out, went to change the battery and the battery, terminals and all fell out of it! I guess i should have taken the battery out of it a while back, oooppppsss!
I hope PACT is kind to me when i send it for repair...
