I'm considering having my Encore barrel rechamber to JD's 30-06JDJ. Anyone have any expierence with this cartridge? With the 60 degree shoulder, it's a pretty radical looking case. He is claiming 2700fps with 165g out of a 15" barrel. Any input will be appreciated!

Sorry I don't have a 30-06JDJ but, I do have a 15" 30-06 Ackley Imp. I was able to get 2700fps with a 165's but, it seemed a little hot and accuracy was not. I can get 2580 to 2600fps with ease and very good accuracy.

Thanks T/C Nut for the info. Is your 30-06ai barrel ported or do you have a muzzle brake on it? What is the recoil like? Is it a full custom or a Fox Ridge barrel? What kind of accuracy are you getting with it? Thanks again!

tlp335,
My barrel was a factory 15" 308Win before I rechambered it. I have no muzzle-brake or porting. I don't think recoil is all that much more than when it was a 308. Accuracy has been very good 1" goups @ 100 are the norm with Hornadys. Barnes TSX's group 1 1/2" to 1 3/4" @ 120 yards. I'm sure it could do better as I have only tried two powders IMR-4350 and Re-15. I have not even played with the OAL's yet.

Thanks again T/C Nut. Your input was very helpful.. Right now I'm working with a factory 30-06. The chamber was cut a bit too deep. New brass sits .002 - .003 below the breech and I get the occasional mis-fire. I therefore need to fire form all my brass before I trust it for hunting so I figured if have to fireform the brass anyway, might as well get some improvement from it. I called VVCG and they don't recomend rechambering a 30-06 to a 30-06ai. The shoulder might not sufficently clean up with the 40 degree shoulder. SSK said with his 60 degree shoulder, it will be fine. Right now I'm only getting about 2300 fps with a 165g bullet. Oh well, just something more to think about. Thanks again!
