Would like to hear experiences w/Savage Striker, I would be interested in a hunting caliber, possibly 7mm 'o8. How bad is the recoil w/muzzle brake? Accuracy?? Dependability?? What type of scope base is furnished and would my Weaver type Burris Zee rings fit it?? Thanks Ray

The Savage Striker doesn't seem to have a big following here to my knowledge. I think that I remember one person saying that they had tried one out. If I remember right he had mentioned something about the trigger pull on it. I just can't remember who it was that I was talking about it to. I have shot a good amount of Savage rifles & I personally wouldn't worry about tring a striker out. I was looking at them not too long a go. Right now my focus is on the encore but I will probably come around on a Striker eventually.

I traded a rifle for my dads 308 SS Striker. It shoots under moa easily with every bullet I've shot from it so far. The trigger was lightened up and it has a Burris 2-7 on it. Not sure if it comes with bases or not. The brake works great too. Recoil is not bad either way, less than you'd think. I can't believe how accurate it is...

I love my Striker! It's very seldom a rifle shooter shows up at the range that can outshoot me and my handgun. Mine's a .308, changed the trigger to a RifleBasix, but would've been happy with the original. One day it's going to have a Shilen barrel on the front end. Very easy to change barrels. Have a one-piece Leupold base and rings and a Burris 3-12X scope.

ive got one in 243 and like it alot ive put a 3x12 burris on it and a rifle basix trigger. they do not come with any sights or bases. ive got a 2 piece base with offset front ring thats spacing is to long for most handgun scopes so a one piece would be better. you could get a weaver base to use your z rings. as for muzzle brake ive never shot a striker with one recoil dont bother me on stuff like that. it is a heavy gun to mine ways in the 7 lbs range so that helps keep recoil down. it doesnt come with sling studs either but there easy to add. if have any other questions let me no. jason

I own two Savage Strikers and a third one on the way. I have the now discontinued thumbhole laminated stock in the .308 with the muzzle brake. Shoots under 1" five shot groups at a 100 yds and have taken numerous deer and antelope with it. Have another in the .223 with even better accuracy.
The triggers are something else. I replaced mine with the Rifle Basix triggers.

My third one that I ordered is the new .300 WSM.
They are super accurate and reliable!

Someone please clue me in on this "rifle basix" trigger. Just how bad is the Striker's stock trigger? Could it be reworked by a gunsmith? I noticed that on its website, Savage is advertising a new trigger, the "Accu Trigger" but it is available only on a few select models and not the Striker.
How does the recoil, especially the muzzle flip compare to a Contender? Is the recoil more straight back or is there more muzzle flip??SS308, thought you might be living in the West, noticed you were from Cheyenne Wyo, I live in Aurora, CO, a burb of Denver Thanks Ray

I have a Striker in 243 Win. I like it but it is a very heavy handgun. Not the gun I would choose to carry all day.
Mine has the adj muzzle brake. It is not needed. In my opinion the extra noise and muzzle blast out weights the benifits. The gun is so heavy it hardly kicks. With the new 300WSM it may be worth it.
The trigger on mine is very nice. I bought it used so I dont know if it has been worked on or not.
Mine has a one piece Luepold base and ring set up on it.
Hope this helps, Lone Hunter

I have a Striker in 260 Rem and am impressed with what you get for the money. I have the center grip synthetic stock stainless barrel and action. The trigger is a little stiff but breaks very clean with no creep,I have adjusted on it some and have it down to 3.5 pds.I am using two pcs. Redfield rings and bases. The pistol is to me a little light for my type of shooting (benchrest) but is very accurate. For the money I think it is the best around in a bolt action pistol. I think you may like it.

Newtoot,
I have a Savage Striker in 308 Win. Although it's a VERY accurate gun, [Smile] I've yet to kill anything w/ it. [Confused] After taking it whitetail deer hunting some the first season I had it, I found out I really didn't like the way it handled, compared to the Contender. Unfortunately, that's not something I could've known until after having used it in the field. [Frown] As I mentioned, it's very accurate; difficult to find a load using 150 gr Sierra SP's that will NOT shoot less than 1 MOA. In addition, in my gun, the velocity (2500 fps w/150 gr bullets) is closer to 309 JDJ levels than what I was expecting. Yes, the trigger as it comes from the factory is BAD (mine was 6-7#)... When I bought mine, there were no aftermarket triggers available so I worked on it myself. Despite being rather "mechanically challenged", I managed to get a pretty good trigger at 3 1/2#. Used some instructions shared over the 'net that utilized just adjusting the screws w/o any stoning. From what I've read, the Rifle Basix trigger is a good replacement for the factory trigger. If you're into big, bulky, bolt action handguns, the Striker is a good way to go. In addition, very rarely will you hear of a report of an inaccurate one. One word of caution: it can be VERY difficult installing certain types of handgun scopes, especially "short" ones (i.e. Simmons 2.5-7X, Burris 2-7X, Leupold 4X, etc), although "longer" ones (i.e. Burris 3-9X and 3-12X) are not as difficult. In order to use my Burris 2-7X, I ended up w/ a T'SOB base/Burris high rings (3). I was unsuccessful using Leupold QD rings (Weaver type), Weaver rings, and Weaver extension and regular bases. Were I to do it over again, I'd probably try the one piece Weaver base first w/ 2, or probably 3, Burris (Signature) Z-rings. The T'SOB is really good, but also a good bit more expensive than the Weaver. I was trying to get the gun set-up for deer season and went w/ the T'SOB as I KNEW it would work. Yes, it's a heavy gun, but this helps dampen recoil, which wasn't a problem for me. In it's available chambers, I don't think one would usually need the brake. [Razz] Seems to have more muzzle flip than the Contender. Mine did NOT come w/ a scope base. I'll probably keep it just because it's so accurate. Gary T.

About the Striker,
Anyone know a dealer that is willing to go through the paperwork to export one to Canada. I'm told from a couple dealers that Savage will not export their handguns to Canada.Believe it or not this time I'm told it's the US laws making it difficult. Of course I've gotta be a handgun nut and now I want a Striker. Anyone have info on this I'd appreciate it.
Thanks
Mike

I have one in 7-08... First year run, had to call savage and bitch and bitch to get the "unreleased" PN for the 14", non-braked(of course) blue in 708. It will outshoot most rifles. It's LESS than 1" at 200 yards

Let's face it, wichata made one pretty close to it, left bolt, right gun (perfect, btw, once you try it) with a synth-stock repeater... for 2400 bucks... So, you could buy a striker, a scope, brass, dies and a case for about 600 total, and spend the other 1800 on hunting.

we call mine "El jeffe's Lando.. as in Lando from Star Wars that carried a HUGE pistol.

My 2 bitchs are the trigger is just barely OKAY and there's no "good" way to carry it on a strap... I am going to make a barrel band for mine

Newtoot, Rifle Basix makes a replacement trigger group for the striker that works very well. If you cant get satisfaction with your factory trigger, Rifle Basix has the answer. Not shure about contact info though. mvm
