Bobby, are you the one with the 7mm Bullberry? If so could you explain it again, about case capacity, forming, etc? Thanks

Yes, it's me. The 7mm Bullberry is simply the 30-30 necked down to 7mm International Rimmed and trimmed back to 1.750". It is then fireformed to minimum body taper/max capacity.

But the EASIEST way to get at 7mm Bullberry brass, and one I've not heard of anyone else doing, is to buy 7mm US brass from eabco.com for around $27/100. Fireforming will blow the shoulder forward and will leave the case just a fraction short -- but not enough to matter. I've formed about 200 via this method, and it works like a charm with zero case loss so far.

From a 20" barrel, I am shooting the Sierra 130 grain SSP at 2505 fps using 32 grains H335. Case life is excellent (in fact, I have yet to discard any for loose primer pockets or any other reason). With this load, cases simply fall out of the chamber. Three-shot, 200 yard groups of an inch to an inch-and-a-quarter are the norm, and I've had a few under an inch. It is one of the easiest wildcats I have ever loaded for.

Also, my fireforming loads generate around 2350 fps with the same Sierra 130 grain SSP. This is ample velocity to make a decent hunting load, and I could use it for such if needed.

I lucked into this barrel. I believe it was Jules who pointed it out to me on gunbroker (forum member rpeacock had it for sale). Even though it did not meet reserve, he sold the barrel to me for my bid of $175 plus shipping -- and it has been perhaps THE single best Contender barrel I have owned. I go through quite a few barrels, but I can't see myself ever parting with this one...

I used it on 3 deer this season, including my best buck ever: an 8 pointer with a spread of 18 5/8th". And while I don't consider it ideal hog medicine, the 130 grain SSP dropped a large, 200+ pound boar on the spot from 130-140 yards.

Dies from Fred @ Bullberry's ran something like $65-70, if memory serves.

I own a 20" 7mm GNR barrel made by Gary Reeder. The 7mm GNR is an ultra improved 7-30 waters. Best looking and most accurate barrel I own. Cases can be formed by simple firing factory loaded 7-30 waters or running virgin 30-30 win brass in the 7 GNR FL die to create a false shoulder. Unless Gary Reeder tells you otherwise delivery is 6-8 weeks which not bad. Dies are Redding. I like this barrel so much that I am thinking about selling all my other barrels custom and factory. Can't see hunting with anything else.

I think that barrel will replace all of your others. [Big Grin]
You might as well get rid of them.

Oh, you might want to post what you are shedding right here for us to snarf up!! [Wink]

Just an opinion you understand, but I bet a bunch of us here on this web site will vote for you to get rid of all of those "excess" barrels.
