I was just wondered if anyone has had there frames matted? Has anyone had the engraving on the sides removed? Or would you have to remove too much metal to do this? Just wanting a different look I guess.

Hey Jules,
I've never had either done but Gary Reeder will mill the factory engraving off your frame, custom engrave and reblue in satin for a mere $345.00 check it out at,

Mark,
Gary does nice work i'm sure. But don't you think thats right much for that kind of job? Well maybe not to custom engrave it, but I just want the engraving removed and left plain with a matte finish.

Yep Jules,
I do think it's pretty pricey, I just posted the info so you knew that it was able to be done.

I just talked to VV Dave and he can slabside the frame without removing to much metal. I'm going to have VV matte a couple frames and leave the engraving on. I'll see what it looks like and go from there. I don't want all my frames plain but I think a couple would be nice. To me, VVCG matte black is the best looking finish to be had.

You can get a plain sided Contender from Fox Ridge www.foxridgeoutfitters.com/customshop/ for about what you will pay for the work you want done from a "custom" smith. Their web site doesn't list the frame but the last catalog I got from them did for $186.00 FFL required if I remember correctly. They also offer custom engraving from stock images or from your drawing.

Oh forgot about 5 years ago I picked up a complete in pieces contender at a yard sale for $8.00 (eat your hearts out [Razz] ). I was in a hills coffee can and was in bad shape as far as surface rust. Took it to a local smith who does lots of "tactical" refinish and had him put a matt black teflon finish on it. I was very surprised at how good ot look and at how well that finished "filled in" the pits on the frame. I have since had three of my barrels and mounts done in this finish. With matt scopes and the Composite stock and forend I have a definite "Black GUN" [Eek!]

Mark,
Prices are 50.00 for slab side and 40.00 to reblue the frame. This is the matte finish. If the finish needs to be polished then the slab side is 75.00.
