Yes, if it starts out as a pistol, you can convert it to a rifle and back......just make sure you don't assemble it with a stock and barrel less than 16" long at the same time.

Gon Huntin Your right it is not worth all that trouble and if you would have not told me I would have done it not know I was braking the Law and I'm glad you put that on the table. It is not worth a $250.000 fine and 10years in prison for $300.00 frame.I just wish that I would have knowed this be for I bought my frame but that is the way my luck goes. And did not thank to ask any one abount it. Thanks !!!!!!! This Law SUCKS

Sean, You said..... "Pretty sure" just is not good enough, and inconclusive in the discussion. I wish they did start them all out as pistols, but we are talking legal issues, and not common sense, and the *legal* definition of what constitutes a rifle or pistol concerning the frame is SOLELY defined by the ATF, and not by T/C. T/C could chose to conform all their frames to the definition of what *legally* constitutes a pistol frame, but they do not. " My question is.... Do you actually know that TC doesn't register all frames as pistol frames? Not arguing with you but want to be sure of what you are saying..... Have you actually checked? If they don't, they are doing us ALL a disservice. $bob$

LD... my calls to TC have ALL been answered with YES they are all Registered as Pistols Just too much hearsay. Just too much Speculation. Just too much energy and time wasted on this thread. And Some in this thread have become "TOO PERSONAL" in the foolish comments and fears. Everyone go shoot your TC and enjoy it. fireball

quote:Bob, Greetings! Well, Fireball has recieved a differant answer than I have, but one must be very carefull to ask the right question of T/C. In the case of the Contender, I believe that might be right, as I do not *think* any Contenders actually came as assembled carbinbes from T/C, though I would have to check my sourses to be certain of the Contender. Regarding the Encore [which is where my point in the discussion centers, and one can imagine as well the G2 would fit this as it will be offered for sale in assembled rifle form] I have called T/C in years past and put the question to them, and gotten nothing but differing answers and equivocations. They will often sight the case regarding the Contender carbine/pistol kits, which does not answer the question of the Encore assembled rifles and shotguns and muzzleloaders at all. When you ask them :Are all the 209x50, 209x45, Encore Turkey shotgun, Encore 308 and 300 win mag hunter rifle packages, assembled FIRST as handguns, dissassembled, and then assembled as rifles before they ALL leave T/C and come in as rifles? The answer has been no. When you ask them if these assembled rifles are then by legal definition "handguns" when the legal definition states that if first assembled as rifles, they are rifles, you start getting the equivocations and referances back to the Contender carbine/pistol kit case. This assembled condition alone is sufficient to demonstrate that according to the body that governs these definitions and all their language on the subject, all the 209x50, 209x45, Encore Turkey shotgun, Encore 308 and 300 win mag hunter rifle packages, all these are rifles according to the regulations. I would ask anyone on the list to call T/C and ask them yourselves, but be carefull to ask the RIGHT questions, regarding those firearms mentioned above which come as assembled rifles, and in the context of the actual wording of the law. Again, the simple sollution for us all to know for certain, would be for T/C to make available a list of serial #'s differentiating the shipped rifle from the shipped pistol frames. Sean I have seen complete Contender Carbines in the original box as shipped from the factory. I also have several old TC catalogs that list specific part numbers for complete carbines. [ 02-14-2003, 01:57: Message edited by: GonHuntin ]
