Fajen forearm

I finally broke down and bought a nice Fajen Bigshot grip set for my Contender. What I did not notice when I bought the set, was that the forearm was drilled for a 16" barrel. I think I'm destined to never have anything that matches. [Frown] Does anyone happen to have a Green Laminate Fajen forearm the would be willing to part with reasonably? I'll probably keep the 16" forearm "just in case" I ever find a 16" barrrel I can't resist . [Wink]

Thanks,Mike

I wonder if it would be a problem to just have one of your barrels remachined to add a Dovetail for a 16" forend??
I would think this would work ?

That would work but I doubt I could decide which barrel to alter. [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] Heck, I would even be interested in a 10" Green laminate for one of my shorter barrels. How does a 10" barrel look on a two hand grip?

Mike, you could get another forend made in the green lamanite.

Another option would be to go with a forearm adapteer like Virgin Valley or Pachmayr uses. You can get the Pachmayr adapters for less than 10 bucks. All you'd need to do is hog out the forearm to accept the addapter. You might even be better off this way!

You can't add a front forend dovetail to the barrel because they are too close to each other, but you can redrill the forend for the shorter spacing. Then you will also have to open the barrel channel for the untapered barrel.

If the extra hole bothers you, install a sling swivel stud to cover the hole not used.

MBK,

Let me know if you want to sell the 16" spaced Fajen forend that you have. I am interested in purchasing it [Big Grin]

Mike. Is adding another dovetail not doable because it will weaken the barrel? or is the spacing just too close to the 14"? Just for reference

Hey guys,
I went through something this recently w/ a 16 1/4" 50 cal muzzleloader barrel I ordered from DVH for my Contender. My specifications were for the dovetail locks to fit a Pach forend adaptor. When the barrel arrived, the dovetail locks were too far apart to fit the Pach forend adaptor. In fact, the spacing was too far apart to even modify a Pach or VVCG forend adaptor. When I called and gave him the measurements, he said he had set the barrel up w/ dovetail locks for a Super 16, instead of the Super 14. [Confused] On my 14" barrels, the holes on the dovetail locks measure about 3.1" apart. On my ML barrel, the holes measure about 3.5" apart. DVH offered to make me another barrel, but we instead settled on him makeing a longer forend adaptor to fit my barrel's dovetail locks. In the meantime, I used my barrel w/ a 10" Pach forend adaptor.

If MBK's holes are similarly spaced as my ML barrel, I doubt there'd be enough room on the barrel to install another dovetail lock w/o it getting into one of the existing dovetail locks. Best bet may be to modify the forend, as MB suggested, or see if DVH can make you a longer forend adaptor, as he's doing for me. [Wink]
