How bout the .300 Remington Short Action Ultra Mag?

The .300 SAUM is based on radically shortened version of the Remington .300 Ultra Mag case. Like the full length Ultra Mag cartridges, the .300 SAUM is a beltless bottleneck case with a rebated rim (a rim smaller in diameter than the case body).

Remington offers factory loads with three bullet weights (150, 165 and 180 grains) for the .300 SAUM. With a 150 grain Pointed Soft Point (PSP) Core-Lokt Ultra bullet Remington claims a muzzle velocity (MV) of 3200 fps and muzzle energy (ME) of 3410 ft. lbs. The 200 yard figures are 2622 fps and 2290 ft. lbs.

With a 165 grain PSP Core-Lokt bullet Remington claims a MV of 3075 fps and ME of 3464 ft. lbs. The 200 yard figures are 2527 fps and 2339 ft. lbs.

For the popular 180 grain Nosler Partition bullet Remington claims a muzzle velocity of 2960 fps with 3501 ft. lbs. of muzzle energy. The 200 yard figures are 2571 fps and 2642 ft. lbs.

well.....i do have a 16.5" 300 win mag encore barrel, but it's not pj's. it is a different barrel that i had cut down from a 26"er myself.
really.......i've just started with it, and have only shot a few 180gr factory loads. they were horendous in recoil my palm was bruised, and hurt for a week or more.
i'll add a rubber grip, and more than likely handload 165's. this should make it plenty shootable, even without a brake.
at the present time "hotrodal" has my 300mag barrel, and is doing a comparison/article for the specialty pistols site. he is comparing his 15" 300win mag(.308 factory rechamber) to my 16.5" 300 win mag(26" factory heavy barrel cutoff). be on the lookout for a fine article there

also at the specialty pistol site.....mike sirois has a forum section of his own. OTT(on target technologies) makes contender/encore custom barrels, among other things.
check with OTT on the 300 winchester short mag......it may be a possibility for the encore

I doubt Mike will chamber that in an Encore Kyle. The pressure is way up there. I think the 300SAUM would be the way to go.

Well thanks guys. I'm get the feeling that the 300WSM is a lost dream .

I'm going with the trusted 308 Win.....I have a 300 Win Mag Rifle already that is flawless in accuracy! No use in beating a dead dog.

I almost get sick if I have to buy factory shells other than cheap pistol ammo for plinking or shotshells. So maybe the 300 SAUM would'nt be a bad choice either.

Thanks guys,
Ben

i think OTT/on target technologies, can do the 300wsm, but he has to give it a long throat, or plenty of freebore to keep pressure down. you could talk to mike about it, if it's a serious interest.
