I ran across an old T/C catalog which stated that the 22 Hornet was the most accurate cartridge that they made. How does the Hornets accuracy compare with all the many calibers being produced today?

I had a Contender .22 Hornet 14" barrel and it would do as good as my .223 barrel, 3/4 inches at 100 yards, when I did my part. It was always accurate enough for ground squirrels and other varmints to any reasonable range. I read that Deiter Anschutz chambered his single shot pistols in .22 LR and .22 Hornet but wouldn’t do them in .22 Mag because the .22 Mag wouldn’t shoot accurately enough to please him. If the .22 Hornet was accurate enough for Deiter Anschutz then I am betting it would be accurate enough for most of us. Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety (1759)

I have never understood the bad rap that the Hornet receives from many shooters. I think the main problem arises from hand loaders trying to get 3500 fps from that tiny case. Keeping the loads a bit on the mild side has always produced very satisfactory accuracy for me. If I need more speed then I grab my triple deuce or 22.250. Lil' Gun, WW680 and Hornady or Sierra Blitz Kings have all been great in the Hornets I have known.
