Have you guys given these a try? I've used 40 and 50 grain versions in .22 cal. and the 72 grain 6mm bullet. Terminal performance is simply outstanding -- explosive, if you will. Performance is on par with the Hornady SXSPs, which happen to be one of my favorite bullet designs.

But in a number of barrels, I have yet to find "the" load with 'em. Accuracy in the 0.8 range is about as good as it seems to want to get with these bullets, despite the barrels/guns easily bettering that with various other load combos. I guess I shouldn't complain about MOA to sub-MOA accuracy in hunting loads, but with other bullets doing a good bit better, I guess I expected more (too much, perhaps...)

I just wanted to hear what your experiences with the Varminators have been.

I use the 40gr in my 221 Fireball and my 223 and they work great on groundhog. The 221 Fireball 10" BBL shoot the best at .5 at 100yds. The 223 14" BBL will group at .7 at 100ys and this off a sand bag rest.

Ive got a box of the .224 50s and 100 pcs of Lapua brass on the way from MidSouth to try in my amazing NEF SB-2 Ultra HB .223....by far the best $90 I ever spent on a barrel.
Bobby youve done a lot more loading than I have but I usually cant get any hollow point varmint bullet to shoot as well as the polymer tipped pills...ie Vmaxes.....I just had to try the Barnes for $8/100.

Dave-
A couple of HP varmint bullets that seem to shoot as well as anything are the Speer 52 grain HP and the Rem PLHPs, although the latter isn't a true hollow point in the strict sense of the word. But you are absolutely correct in that the polymer-tipped bullets tend to exhibit match-grade accuracy with virtually any load...

BTW, the enticing price was the reason I tried the Varminators also.

Components showed up this afternoon. When the rain lets up I'll be trying the 50 grain varminators over 24.2 grains of RL-10x, Fed 205 primers in 100.2 grain Lapua brass. BTW this is a slightly compressed load with the COL that this cheap rifle likes.

Hey guys,
Just got back from the pd hunt. (Will give a more detailed update soon.) One of the guys on the hunt shot "Varminators"--both 50 gr (223 Rem and 22-250) and 72 gr (243 AI). His accuracy was running 1/2-3/4 MOA, but he was very pleased w/ this as he'd not had the opportunity to do much load development w/ the guns, thusfar. [Cool] Performance in the field was on par w/ similar bullets. I need to try more bullets like I need a hole in my head, [Eek!] but at $8/100, I might just play around w/ a box or two.
