Along the theme of 357 max deviations and derivatives, I got to thinking about this one last night. If you take a 6.5 TCU reamer, and run it in .10" short, and cut the base of a 6.5 TCU sizer .10" short, then you can use a 357 max case, not loose much case capacity, and have enough neck to seat a bullet. I'd think you'd still have the same performance as the TCU in a 10" tube, 120 gr @ 2200 fps. Whatcha think, would still use std dies, with an inexspensive tweak?

That is what was done in 7mm almost 20 years ago when Mike Stewart came up with what he called his "Super 7" and Elgin Gates wrangled with him over it, calling it 7mm Super Mag. Yes, I do believe it would make a nice 10" round. To me heavy bullets in small calibers in short barrels are not usually the way to go. Faster and lighter gets flatter trajectories and better expansion from the 10" barrels. Even though it borders on reinventing the wheel, your idea would result in a very gratifying combination. Mike, I know, nothing new under the son, well, maybe you should check out this thread on the big bore board: http://www.serveroptions.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=16;t=001947 Anyhow, I'm a big rimmed case fan, 10" barrel fan, and 6.5mm fan, so this one seems like a natural. I'd thought about the 30 cal in the other thread, but since I already have a set a 30 herret dies, and 100's of thutty thutty cases, I can't see going to the expense of a custom, with a pretty good supply of moderately priced used 30 H's on the market. I'm still looking at getting a 12X36 lathe, and making a thread in contender tube for experiments. Me thinks this may be one of the first chamberings. I'd also like to try a 6.5mm hornet, just for the heck of it.
