Brand new Encore Contender sitting at the shop. Blued bbls. One a 45/70 Govt. w/ brake on it. The second a 44 Mag. The owner (consignment) has some sort of head injury, can't hold a gun steady, and never shot these puppies. He wants $750. It's barking at me. *S* It's been sitting in the shop for months. Small town here, small market. I should make an offer, and let him "think about it."

What is an Encore Contender? Assuming it is a TC Contender, with 1 extra barrel, that price is at least $150.00 too high. ______________________ Age and Treachery Will Always Overcome Youth and Skill

Tembo is right -- there's no such thing. But I'm guessing it's a Thompson-Center Contender. If those are standard factory barrels, those calibers generally go for around $150 to $165 or so. New from a store, they can be had for around 185.00-199.00 with a bit of judicious shopping. Frames in like-new condition run around $185-210 depending on the locale. And then you can factor in a little for the grip and forend. (I know you said it's new. But if it already had one owner, it isn't new anymore and won't command a "new" price) Regardless, that still comes up well short of the asking price. I don't care much for those calibers, but if they are calling your name, then by all means you should give an offer for them to mull over. A little food for thought: the last Contender setup I bought was a like new frame, Super 14 barrel and walnut hardware. The shipped price was $285. Granted, deals like that don't happen every day, but they can be found with a little patience. Good luck... Encore is a muzzle loader Contender. I think the model is a C2. Head injury is part of the reason for the price. On consignment, the shop owner thinks it's high too. There's a stainless in 7-30 Waters, with a scope. But I'm all set up to load 44 mag. and 45/70.

The model would be a G2. NOTE: Encore and Contender are not the same thing. You can get a muzzle loading Encore OR a muzzle loading Conder but NOT a muzzle loading Encore Contender. ...and the price is too high in my opinion by at at least $200. Someone has great dreams and aspirations and is hopeing you'll be the answer to them.

No...I'm afraid it isn't. Someone is giving you bogus information. As I tried to explain above, the Encore and Contender are two DIFFERENT guns. Barrels are NOT interchangable. You may want to look at tcarms.com to see the difference for yourself before making any purchase or offers. I bought a brand new G2 Contender in March of 2004. It included frame, butt stock and foreend but no barrel.....cost $317 out to door...including tax. Add in a couple of used barrels that if they would bring top dollar (not likely in a small market) $170 each.....still way under $750. And mine is new........with box and paperwork. This is a "new G2 Contender" with a total price of $487.....less scope/mounts Offer $500 cash or walk.
