I just picked up the Van Horn 6.5-284 barrel yesterday. Dave sent me an email Monday that it was shipped. Iwas real dissapointed when the Brown never showed up. I had to go to the Post Office to mail a package and suprise! The barrel was there. Black ABS tube shipping tube with wood end caps. This guy does not want anything to happen to his barrels. Nice graphic of a Mtn. Lion engraved on it. Hard to see as it blends in with the blueing. I might try to fill it with gold. Anyone tried this before? I worked up some rounds for it and managed to get five shots before it got dark. Three shots to get on the dot. The next 2 were touching the 3rd. This was at 25 yrds. Can't wait to get out and try it at 100 yards this morning. I must have a propensity (sic) for getting everyones errors. My experience with VV was less than satisifing, although the barrel shoots well. The extractor pin and spring was missing from dave's barrel.

Rich,
Congrats on your new barrel!
What was the barrel length on that again?
What scope have you mounted on it?
I look forward to hearing what loads work well for you.
What weight and brand of bullet do you plan on starting with?

Hi Ernie
It is a 17". I am using some 100gr to break-in with. Dave recomends 100 rounds with a cleaning inbetween each shot. I am not sure I can do that.
I will start with the 140's when I am through. I am waiting on a Denzel Roberts Long ranger grip set to arrive. For now I am shooting it as a carbine. I have a brand new Leupold varix-lll 3.5x10 that my uncle had sitting on a shelf since 1977. So far I have been shooting this morning at 50 yards. Very impressive.

Rich,
I would check with some bench shooters first before you break your barrel in that way. You are more likely to wear your throat or barrel out more by cleaning it than you will by shooting it.
I can see 1 shot and clean for the first 10 rounds then going to three rounds and clean for 7-10 times. Glad things are going well with your 50 yards shooting. My next project is to re-do some load development with the 7.82 Patriot XP-100 with some Sierra 180 & 200 grain MatchKings. Also had a in-line bullet seater made for it.
Then I need to finish load development on a 260 Remington and a 22-250 AI in a M.O.A. Maximum. The MOA Has a 3x12 Burris LER with Ballistic Plex Reticule. I have more things to do than I have time and I am considering a future Bellm cartridge in a TC--I think this handgun disease is terminal! [Eek!] [Big Grin] [Eek!] [Big Grin]

What's bad is when ya start buying them cause your saving money getting them for a good price. Sometime i'll buy it for that reason only. That's why I post them on this forum. I'm hoping someone else will buy so I won't. [Big Grin] Oh God....What pressure!
