Don S or anybody worked up loads for the Nosler 125 gr BT in the 308 Bellm? Tried some with the 130 gr Hornady loads with Win 760 Mike has on his site, but would like to know if anyone has had success with other powders. Thanks

Tony D. I haven't tried the 125 BT's but I have loaded up some 165 BT's w/Win 760. I also just finished doing the Spring Back Testing that Don S. developed. I was using Hornady 130gr. and IMR4895 to develop the Red-Line for my barrel. With IMR4895 the 130's are flat moving out!!! I need to work up an accuracy load for mule deer this fall. I'll be using Hornady 130's and Sierra 135 SSP bullets. These are the only 2 powders I've tried so far! Bob

Tony D There was a guy on the pond (GB) that tried it with Nosler 125 Bt's & had excellent results as I remember it. That guy doesn't post here to my knowledge. I believe he used mike's load data for the 130's. I will check & see if I can find it. Rich Jake

Tony, The smallest bullet I tested was the Hornady SPFB 130 grain. With the small bullets there were actually three powders that did well. Win 760 was the best overall with IMR 4895 second and Win 748 being third best. But in going to bullets 150 and heavier, Win 760 came through the best. My top loads with the 130 gr bullet were Win 760 - 51.5 gr at 2460 f/s. IMR 4895 - 44.0 grain at 2405 f/s. Win 748 - 46.0 grains at 2430 f/s. Accuracy was best with win 760. Start out a little under those charges though. As Bob mentions, he has a tighter bore than mine and has gotten some higher velocities than I got with the pressures staying where they should be. So that says it will vary some from one barrel to the next. Hope that helps, Don Shearer

I have some 125 Gr. B/T's loaded up right now with 51 Grs. of W760. I started at 50 Grs. after talking over Email with Mike. Since B/T's are solid base and I have heard that they can cause higher pressures than Hornady's, I decided to start at the lowest charge. I lost my notes on the accuracy, but I had no extraction problems and my groups were somewhere around 1" at 100 yds. I hope to get out tomorrow and try the new loads and will let you know how they shoot. If I can get my chrono set up I will try to get some velocities also. My barrel is 16&7/8 at the moment so my velocities may be higher than a shorter barrel. Dennis [ 07-30-2003, 19:38: Message edited by: DennisF ]

My .308 is a factory Super 14 30/30 barrel rechambered by Mike to a .308 Bellm. As Don has mentioned my barrel is more a .306 then a .308. Go figure!! Anyway, a 130gr. Hornady with 45grs. of IMR4895 was determined to be the Red- Line load for my barrel, and produces any average velocity of 2620f/s I like it!!!! This barrel is also very accurate and has produced some amazing groups! Now that I have a Max Load for my barrel I'll play with seating depth and such and really fine tune a load! It's a fun one to shoot! Rich J. and I have both worked with 110gr. bullets out of the .308 Bellm. These need some more work though! I don't know if Rich has any data on the lighter bullets, My notes are at home! If interested I can look up the data. Bob

I tried 4 loads this weekend with the 125 BTs and Win 760 - 49.5, 50, 50.5 and 51 grains. The 51 grain load averaged about 2580. Was getting about 1.5 to 2" groups at 100. Might tinker with seating depth next time. The Accurate reloading manual has loads for the 309 JDJ, I might try a few of those. I realize the JDJ version has a little more case capacity, so I will tread carefully. BTW, My barrel was a 30Herret with the 6 groove rifling. Mike said I could probably do better than the loads Don worked up with the 8 equal land and groove barrel. He's not kidding! With 50 gr Win 760 and the 150 gr Hornady's, it topped out at about 2550! The cases fell out of the chamber when the barrel was tipped up. No primer catering or marring of the case head noticed. They do get your attention when you touch them off! I never did clock the 130 Hornadys, though I did take a deer in Missouri a few years ago. Wanting to use the 125 BTs for antelope, but if they won't shoot as well as the 130 Hornadys, I'll go with them. Tony D ><>

Tony D I found that email with the guys results but it appears you've already ran the loads the guy listed. Let me know if you are still interested in it & I'll email it to you. Rich Jake

Rich, I got my load data from Mike's website - it's the data Don Shearer developed. Thanks Don! I will try to get to the range this week - I'll be on vacation next week (non-shooting vacation ) I'll let you guys know what I come up with. Tony D ><>
