I have mostly been shooting smaller bored pistols. .223, 7mm L&L & 45-70 (whoops, that really isn't a small bore) in the contender. .223 and .260 in an encore. I am hearing a lot of talk about the .284 wildcats, improved '06 cases, a few darring (crazy) souls w/ the WSMs, and the harry chested guys w/ the belted magnums.

It seems to be the .350 Remington mag would be perfect for the encore and short bolt pistols. Does anybody use one? If not, why doesn't anybody use these. Brass and dies are available, short powder column, slightly better balistics (according to Nosler) than the 35 whelen? Just curious?

I have a Competitor in 358 Norma Magnum that is not punishing at all. It has a 16" barrel and muzzle brake. I am getting 2715 fps with 225 grn bullets. With 180's am getting 2965 fps. You can make the brass out of 338 Win. Mag. The only draw back is the dies are expensive. Hope this is of some help.

I think the same thing Bear track. I am thinking about a 350 Rem mag in a 15 - 17 inch lenght with a muzzle tamer by Fox Ridge - it is on my list of must have barrels. I belive I posted here or on GBO some time ago regarding this round - there were a few responses, you might be able to find them in the archives. I remember reading about one person questioning weather it would have a longer chamber than the standard so you could seat bullets out a bit more and get added powder capacity. If you get one let us know how it does for you. When I get one I will let you know how it goes, although it is about 3rd or 4th on my list of must haves.

I have a .350 Rem Mag Barrel for my Encore Rifle. Let me say this very clearly for the poster above me. Do Not Buy a .350 Rem Mag from Fox Ridge Outfitters!!! They do not know how to cut a belted magnum chamber. They cut the throat entirly to long. Bullets from factory rounds pretty well come out sideways. When I called Fox Ridge to speak with them about my concerns I was told "A lot of guys like to be able to touch the lands. That really is not necessary" Yeah but at least I should be able to find the rifling.

I got lucky my barrel likes 225gr Ballistic Tips. My COAL However is over 3". Sean

SSK did a .376 Steyr in an Encore. Same concept but with .375 Dia. bullets. The Steyr does very well in short barrels.
