I would add to be sure to use the blue loctite. This will allow you to remove it someday if you desire but will hold extremely well under recoil.

If it's a factory barrel, there should be no suprises. Drift out the pin in the rear sight (careful not to lose it) and then remove the elevation screw, careful as there is a small spring under it. Then remove the 2 screws that hold the sight to the barrel. Once the rear sight is removed you should see 4 drilled & tapped holes to locate the base. Check each hole with the screw and base to make sure that the screws are not too long and bottoming out in the hole (check each screw individually!!!) once you are satisfied that the screws are the right length, add a SMALL drop of locktite and install the base.

Thats all there is to it.

K2,
There is another useful trick even with Contender barrels with recoil as light as the 30-30. That is, stick Avery Label paper in the bottom half of the scope rings. Then when you tighten the rings, make sure they are tight, but not so tight that it makes a mark on the barrel of your scope. The paper on the inside of the rings will greatly reduce the chance that the scope will slip in the rings.
