One of you will have surely tried this?
I am wondering if one of the 30-30 type bullets would work well in the 308 handgun? It would seem that they should expand. I know, I know there are some others but have a bunch of 30-30 FP I could use instead of buying more bullets. Just thought if they would expand well on whitetail sized animals I could go that way? MOst of the SSP bullets are pretty light thought maybe a little heavier and still expand at 30-30 velocities this would work???

This is not exactly what you are asking but may interest you anyway. I loaded 150 Round nosed Silver Tips by Winchester in the 300 Whisper which was doing 1800 FPS at the muzzle & still expanded nicely in testing. I don't see why they wouldn't work in the application you are asking about. My only worry would be that they would be moving too fast. If you were going to use them hunting it might be worth doing an expansion test first.

Jeff-
If you load them full throttle and take a shot up close, I'd be a little extra cautious in shot placement. But overall, these will do just fine, especially considering that you won't be shooting them very much faster than they can be loaded in a 30-30 rifle.

Have you shot the 6mm-.223 any more ?

I would think the 30-30 bullets would work well on game with your 308. The 308 is going to push them about the same speed they were intended for in a carbine lever 30-30. Most levers are only what about 18" long?

Rich Jake, Fireball, Bobby, Thanks for the input.
I am going to give them a try and see how they do, as I have not played with this barrel near enough. The only thing I have shot in it were factory WW loads, recoil is not bad at all. I just don't think they would expand well enough in the shorter barrel?

Bobby, I still have not shot any paper. I am planning on next weekend, if I don't have to work.
But on the upside I have loaded up a couple of differrent batches to do some load work once I get the time.
