Does anyone have a loads for 75 gr. bullets in the 257TCU. My guns won't shoot 75 gr. bullets. I'm guessing becaues the throat is loooong. I can seat 120 speer flatbase bullets in the neck only and they still don't touch the lands. Both barrels (15" and 21") are from foxridge.

I had the same problem with a 257tcu from foxridge. I could not touch the lands with the longest bullet and the accuracy with 75 gr. bullets was at best 3 to 5 inches at 50 yards. I called them and asked why the long throat and they said it was the way they chamber all tcu's I have a 12 inch 257 tcu contender taht will do an inch at 100 easy with IMR4198 and several other powders. It also has a long throat but not as long as the foxridge carbine barrel. I sent it back to foxridge and told them if they can't chamber it correctly to keep it. I have a friend with a 6mmtcu from virgin valley that does not have a long throat and it shoots 80 grain slugs at 150 fps faster than my 257 carbine and it is only 14 inches. I get 2700 from the 12 inch handgun and the 21 inch carbine only gave me 2800 with the same load. The fired cases from the foxridge carbine barrel would expand a lot more than the cases fired in the 12 in pistol. I could place a case fired in the pistol in the carbine chamber and it would rattle, but a case fired in the carbine would not fit in the pistol chamber. You are the second person I have heard of that has had trouble with foxridge 257tcu barrels. If I were you I'd send it back and have them make it right. The long throat also causes me trouble with fireforming cases as I like to seat bullets just to engage the rifling when fireforming these types of cases and I can't do so with the foxridge barrel. I get lots of missfires and have had a few blown primers with this barrel when fireforming with light loads and just about any bullet. If they cannot make a 257 tcu with a shorter throat I want my money back and I'll got to VVGC and pay the extra dollars for a properly made barrel. shortgun

Actually I really like my 257 TCUs. They are both incredibly accurate with bullets over 75 grains. Probably I should say, not accurate with 75gr. v-Max's. I haven't tried any other 75gr. bullets because I have over 600 v-maxs. I've shot 0.75" groups with the 15" barrel at 200 yards (with 115 NBT & 28.5 gr w 748 or same weight RL 15 @ 2400fps). The carbine does about the same @ 100 yds with hornady, sierra or speer flat base 100 grain bullets @2650-2700 fps. Both chamber are very close. I use rem 7 1/2 primers in the carbine and cci 450's in the pistol to tell them apart. With the same loads I get about 130-150fps faster in the carbine.

Buckweet Thanks for the info, I'll give it a try. After my last post it occured to me that hadn't really tried any other 75 gr. bullet. I've chronographed almost 400 rounds using all different bullets and powders but only one 75 gr. bullet. Hmmm.

HEY, buckweet..I like the 257tcu very much also and my 12 inch custom shop pistol barrel as just fine. Afyer 30 years of T/C handguns I decided to try a carbine barrel and I wanted it to be compatible with the handgun. In those 30 years I have been fortunate in that I have never had a problem with the contender products I have owned or worked with. And I have had a LOT of them. I have two other Foxridge barrels that are great. This carbine barrel, however, had a problem. The chamber was cut two large and the throat is real loooong. I had split necks, blown primers, terrible fouling and poor accuracy. I can hit one gallon jugs at 300 yards with the 12 inch pistol and the carbine would not do it at 100! Anyway I sent it back and hope they will make it right. I have a new Gary Reeder barrel to work with and am still having loads of fun with the 30-30 AI barrel that has proven to be spectular in term of performance. I have the highest regard for VVGC stuff and have two friends who own 6mmtcu barrels presently and they are getting super results with them. I'll file your data for future trials. I have used a little IMR4895 with the 100 gr. BT's in the 257. and they were very accurate. Took a crow at 180 yds with them. H-4198 seems to be the best in my barrel thus far with the 75 and 85 gr bullets. Best to ya buddy shortgun

Buckweet..Got good news today..Foxridge is sending me a new barrel. Seems the chamber was oversized and out of center. I hope this new barrel will be better as this little round is such fun in the 12 inch contender and a carbine that is compatible would be a hoot. Crows and coyotes, and fox will sing a new tune when I get this duo working. shortgun
