I am not posting this to argue the merits of A vs. B. I did it simply as an illustration of the expansion characteristics of several popular hunting bullets in specialty pistols. I have tons of others that I am going to put together and post one day. There are more bullets and velocity levels that go down to around 1600 fps (actually, all the impact velocities listed are taken 10 feet from the target) One day I'll sit down at the computer, scan them all and post the info. I'll even sub-divide them to differentiate between the mediums I use. (nothing is the same as flesh and bone, however). The info may be meaningless to most, but if it was of interest to at least one other shooter, it was worth the time and effort. Good hunting... Bobby...have at it. I am very interested in your data. I am a handgunner myself so it could be of great benefit to get this info on lower velocity performance on a variety of bullet types/manufacturers. What works well for rifle velocities may be terrible for the lower hangun velocity. The TSX is a good example. I have had good terminal performance from the accubonds. Woody

That pic of the AB makes me think a 129 or 125 would do as well, or any 120 or 140, at those speeds. Seems the ballistic tip 120 would show more frontal area expansion. I cannot see any gain with the AB for the price, makes the 140's you show look all the better!

Yes, the 120 grain BT does expand to a greater diameter. And the Sierra 120 grain Pro Hunter expands much like the 140 grain GameKing albeit with a little less penetration and perhaps a tad more surface area. THe 125 grain Partition gives textbook mushrooms when impact velocity ranges from 2650 down to 2000 fps, and right now, you can get this bullet for 9.95 through the Nosler Pro SHop. These are 2nds but perform perfectly -- and at that price, they are cheaper than most cup-and-core bullets. In 6.5, at moderate velocities, we are fortunate in that there are a number of bullets that perform exceedingly well -- and the performance pretty much negates the need to spend extra $$ for "premiums."t Bobby Μολὼν λαβέ The most important thing in life is not what we do but how and why we do it. - Nana Mouskouri

Bobby, Than you very much for all your fine work and great posting. The pictures are simply beautiful and the information is priceless for any budding 6.5 handgun hunter. I , for one, am looking forward to seeing more when you get around to it...Rusty.

Bobby can you test or post results from 6.5s with an impact velocity in the range of 1600-2000 if you have them? It may be be more appropriate impact velocity for many of the 6.5s that a lot of folks may be shooting out of the Contender. Don't limit your challenges . . . Challenge your limits

Louis- that's actually where much of my data falls. I hope to get it together in the next month or so. Thanks, Bobby Bobby Μολὼν λαβέ The most important thing in life is not what we do but how and why we do it. - Nana Mouskouri
