Yeah. In P.O. Ackley's book he lists several based on the Jet. .22 Improved Jet (Ackley) .22 Sabre .22 Super Jet I'm have a .22 Super Jet that Mike is going to do when he gets caught up... Do I remember that "Ackley Improved" is a 40 degree shoulder? His book says that the Super is a 30 degree shoulder... steve

quote:Steve, what made you pick the Super Jet?? What kind of velocities with what grain bullets can be expected? [ 09-01-2002, 04:59: Message edited by: mssmagnum ]

Picked it for a couple of reasons. First, Mike mentioned it, second, I'd never heard of it before. Mike's doing it in a 10" .22 rimfire barrel. I didn't much care for it(have a S&W model 41 for that sort of thing) so I asked Mike what he could do. I'd been wanting a .218 Bee, but I think the SJ will be just the ticket. I like the idea of a little extra velocity with the SJ - this will probably be my short to middle range varmint gun. Still think I need one of those .22 shorts like Sean's got for my collection though. Not sure on the dies - since Mike's been so backed up I knew I wouldn't see it for a while. Probably need to think about it now though. steve [ 09-01-2002, 07:00: Message edited by: 1buba ]

Will definately let you know. I've been doing some looking and haven't found any on the web. Even kind of hard to find .22 Jet dies, but I did find some of those. Redding - $60. I'll have to send Mike a note and see what he says. I know he has the moritorium on, but you might send him a note of list and see. I know that indicating each barrel in is a time sucker, not sure how much time it actually takes to do the setup of the reamer... steve

I have only done a few of the Super Jets. At least, I think that is what mine is. I will have to check to see what dimensions it has. Meanwhile, I should have some fired cases around here that can be sent off to RCBS or Redding to verify dimensions. Last one I did was for Ed Kirkpatrick several years ago. You might ask him if he has it yet, where he got his dies, if he is shooting it, what he thinks of it, and about any data he might have. It comes pretty close to a .222 Rem. ballistically, not quite as close as the .221 FB. They are all in about the same league. The Super Jet or Imp. Jet is a neat little round. Let me know what you find out regarding dies for this one. I have not checked on it in years. If some are 30 degree and some 40 degree, you will need to know what I have...... so let me get back to you on it. You can make cases out of .256 Win. or neck down .357 Mag. cases and fireform, which is what I think I did for Kirkpatricks. Being fond of small .22s, the only thing I see wrong with the Imp. Jet/Super Jet is that I don't have a barrel for one myself! Mike

I had a 218 mashburn bee, and was not overly impressed by it. I would agree that a 22 jet variant, or rimmed 221 is the way to go for a 10" contender. Seems like with the die issues, the rimmed 221 is the way to go, but I understand the need/desire for something different.
