This is the one I just received. It's the blue-black laminate and is unfinished on the 250imp contender. It will get alot darker when the clear satin finish is applied. My photo's aren't very good.
I ordered an 11" beavertail forend but it came 14" and it's right at 2" wide. I like it though and i'm gonna keep it that long. Both pieces will take very little sanding and should finish out very nice. I have a black 1" recoil pad that will be fitted to it also.
I got this set from Wenig Custom Gunstocks Inc. http://www.wenig.com/ Unfinished set like mine are $125.00 plus shipping. Believe me, You don't want to know what a finished set cost from them.
Was wondering how rough did it come. was it like VVC semi- finished which needs only a lite sanding before coating or was it fresh off the shaping machine like a richard microfit and needed a lot of sanding. Just curious.

It will take some sanding for sure, but it's not really that bad. Seems to sand fairly easy if you start with 100 grit and go from there. Other ones may not be as smooth as this one though.

Buttstock was a little tight on the frame {Better then too big} but a couple mins. with a sanding block and it fit perfict. I had the forend barrel channel under cut so I could fit it to the barrel I was going to use. I didn't get any holes drilled in it either so I could fit it with a hanger bar.
Jules, after seeing your stock set and look at the web page you provided, you really have me wanting either a blue/black or red/black stock set for my encore. What was the turn around time on your set? I may even have to get a new barrel to go along with it. Thanks for the info & pics!! I just need to decide on a color and then barrel contour & caliber.
I also like the red-black...and the green-black, and the orange-black and so on Turn around time on mine was 4 weeks but a couple of my friends was 10 days and one was even 3 days. I guess it all matters on what they already have in stock. They say 3 weeks for anything they don't have made up. You may be able to call them and see what they have on inventory.
FWIW, Fred managed the Fajen plant in Warsaw, MO for many years under Reinhart Fagen himself, and later under another owner when Reinhart retired and sold out.
BUT, when Midway's Larry Potterfield bought out Fajen, Fred bailed right away..... he probably had some idea about what was to happen to the Fajen plant under Potterfield. Fred had been in the biz for many, many years.
Fajen was one of the very first companies to make Contender carbine wood, and as a matter of fact, Fajen's, under Fred Wenig, used to make the carbine wood for Frank Kendrick's Texas Contenders company, one of the very first pioneer companies to make Contender carbines back in the 70s.
So Freddie is no rooky at Contender wood.
Ref. the inletting, always make sure there is no outward pressure on the "ears" of the buttstock (or handgun grip as well) that cover the frame. These "ears" are pretty thin and prone to splitting off. A little clearance on the sides is a good idea.
I have never seen the blue laminate..... good looking, if somewhat radical.
