I agree with your comments about the Bain and Davis, we are currently rechambering a 10" .357 Desert Eagle barrel to B&D. We have loaded up some ammo and it is very sexy looking, how well it will shoot is another question...

Jason

Could you advise on how this conversion went?

Thanks!

In 10" contender tubes, I've had a 357 mag, 357 max and 357 Herrett. I don't have my notes handy, but as I recall, a long loaded 200 gr cast in the 357 mag could do 1700+ fps, in the 357 max 1900+ fps, and the 357 Herrett could just break 2000 fps. The 357 Herret also burned alot more powder then the 357 max.

The problem is, the best powder is discontinued 680, AA 1680 will work, but not quite as well. The nice thing about the 357 Max is you don't have to do any case forming, and top loads with 1680 are compressed, so they burn better then in the 357 Herret.

My thought is, the 357 max is better for 200 gr and under bullets, and the 357 Herret is better for bullets over 200 gr.
