Out chuck hunting tonight again, had a "bench" [Wink] set up n the top of a round bale and was watching the field when i noticed movement off to the right. Sure enough, woodchuck! [Big Grin] I had the XP pointed down the field and this shot was ENTIRELY too close for it so i grabbed the loaded 444 and proceeded to stalk over to another bale as i could not shoot directly at him due to a house over the hill. It was a miserable stalk of a whole 25 yards to the other bale, he never let me take a single step without warning me that he was gonna bolt! [Wink] Welp, made the other bale and he was heading in a direction away from the house, which made this shot almost completely 90 degrees to the initial offering. I got the 4x Leupold on his shoulder and KAFRIGGINBANG! Recovered from the recoil and all i see is his tail waggin!!! [Big Grin] I used a Nosler 240 grain JHP and at these speeds i just about ripped him in two. Those bullets are WAY to thin jacketed for the 444 but make EXCELLENT varmint pills!! [Big Grin] I FINALLY DID IT!! [Big Grin]

Poor chicken little woodchuck probably thought the sky was falling just before the meteor struck.

Too funny,

I think the .444 may be just a bit light for those 'chucks. You'd better move up to something a little more potent...

All kidding aside, congrats on blooding that barrel!

Magnum, glad your using enough gun, you can't be too careful with those chucks. I've heard wounded ones will bare thier teeth and charge you [Eek!]

Well, now I know Mike is overcompensating for something in his life. Could it be that he can't hit the side of a barn with anything less then 30 caliber? (he'd rather take the whole barn down with something bigger!!) [Wink] [Big Grin]

No wonder we needed the deal on .444 brass. Everyone knows that you need at least 600 rounds for every varmint gun!

If he was still twitching you'd better move up to the 300 gr bullets. I believe in clean kills. But it's cruel when you miss......the poor bastard tries to run in the hole you blew up.

MSSmagnum, The wife gave me a Savage Striker in 17HRM for our 25th anniversary! The darn thing is more fun than eatin' beans! First groundhog to fall prey to it was 102 yards! DRT!!!!(dead right there)!! Put a 2-7 scope from Paul Dustin (from the board) on it and it's a hoot to shoot! Not the "blood and guts" that you witnessed but end result was the same!!! Great shooting and keep it up!!! GHD

Kickedby444 and i are goin out this evening to try and ventilate a couple more. If the opportunity presents itself, i would like to pop another with the 444 and them Noslers to see if i get the same results. Jim might have his camera and if all the planets align just right, we might have a pic of the destruction! [Big Grin]
