Would the Contender handle the "lighter" power 454 loads or 45 Colt +P loads? Also, what would keep someone from shooting 454 Casull loads in a 45/410 barrel? There is no "chamber" so they would slip right in.

Since sammi Specs for the casull is Pressures up to 59.000psi the ONLY ANSWER is NO and NO WAY and if you are still not sure NO.
And 45 spec loads are NOT advisable in a casull case as per reloading manuals. Too much empty space in the case with light loads One of the First warnings in the reloading books for the casull is NEVER reduce the loads below the recomendations.
This case is just too large and the pressure too high to be safe in the contender.
Be safe Keep your hands and eyes and above all LISTEN to JULES
If someone has a .45Colt/410 barrel and a spare Contender frame, I'd be very interested in testing it out. I have a big ball of string around here somewhere...

I will be right BEHIND YOU looking on......lol Fireball
By the way this is out of a 454 Casull case. with no signs of high presser.I load them to the OAL of 1.845 this is a Nosler 260gr Par. and with the Winchester 260gr PT the OAL is 1.805 This in the Contender 45 not 45/410
cas I started out with triming down 454 Casull cases till I seen that Thompson Center made my chamber way to long. When I was triming down 454 Casull cases I started setting the bullet as far out as I could. This is when I seen the long chamber. With the cases cut down and the bullet as far out as I could get it I started working up loads for this barrel. I use some 45 Colt brass and did the same put the bullet out as far as I could get it.With the 454 Casull I set the bullet to the same OAL as I did with the cut down 454 cases and they work fine. It works the same with my 357 Mag barrel I set the 158gr and 180gr bullets out as far as they will go and with this I have them out justable as long as a 357 Max. This barrel has a long chamber to.cas could you tell me the differnce in seating your bullet out this far in a 45 colt or cut down 454 Casull case and doing this same OAL in a 454 Casull Case
