Encore problem

I just got a new encore frame and noticed that on some barrels I must really snap the action closed, sometimes repeatedly, in order to pull back the hammer. I have noticed this on another frame and barrel combination and thought it was just that particular barrel but now a different barrel acts up with a different frame. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Vic L.

Hi Vic,
Are your barrels factory of other? Which ones are you having trouble with?? Do you have trouble closing them on a round in the chamber?

On one frame the hang up is on a bullberry barrel, however that barrel works fine on another frame. The frame that works with the bullberry has problems with a VV muzzleloading barrel. It will close but if it was not snapped sharply you cannot cock it with a primer in it. The problem with the bullberry barrel and frame happens with no cartridge chambered. I have not yet experimented with other barrels as I just got the new frame today.

Thanks,

Vic L.

Age old problem, but you simply need to lower the top surface of the locking bolts or obtain a lower set from whomever.... TC or aftermarket makers.

Watch also for signs the barrel is hitting hard on the breech face. If the barrel is too long from hinge pin hole to extreme breech end, it may not close all the way. In that event, some material must be removed from the end of the barrel. I simply put them in the lathe and face some off, but filing is acceptable also.

Such things as feeler guages and felt tip pens will show what is hitting where so you can identify where the adjustment needs to be made.

You will always have tolerance variations from one component to the next, and thus you will also have fit problems. It is part of life with interchangeable barrel systems. Don't fight it. Fix it, and live happily ever after.

I'll have some pix up on the online store soon that will show using the Diamond EZE Lap being used to lower the tops of locking bolts.

I did not get the IPN number I need for Pay Pal tonight, so the store is not online yet.

Thanks Mike. I eagerly await your pics. I had VV replace the locking bolts on the muzzleloading barrel when I first got it but I still have occasional locking problems with it. I will try fixing them myself once I've seen your pics.

Thanks,

Vic L.

Still no IPN number for Pay Pal yet this morning, so no online store or pics yet.

Meanwhile, I would be talking to someone for different locking bolts.

You can start flattening the learning curve by taking a felt tip pen, blacking the tops of locking bolts on all the barrels you have, then noting how far the locking table inside the frame marrs the ink when you snap the barrels shut. Not the difference from frame to frame if you have or have access to more than one frame. Pay close attention to how far the locking bolts are engaging the frame/frames, and you will probably see that the one giving problems engages the least.

Einstein, I am not, but there is no reason why you cannot do the same basic things I do all the time in solving problems like this. Just here to help.
