I use 130 and 140 grain Barnes XBT's for whitetails in single shot 30-30 rifles, but decided to ask the question here instead. I push these bullets 2500-2600 fps. I practise with 130 grain Hornady SSSP's, but haven't used them for hunting. What are your experiences both spitzer and flat/round nose?..............Chainsaw

I've had good luck on whitetails with the 150gr. FN Win. silvertips in the 30-30 out of a Win. 94 when I had one. But in a single shot I went to spitzer and never looked back. I would think that the Barnes 125,130 and 140s all should work very well at 2500 to 2600fps. I've used the 130s at 2300fps from a 14" contender to take deer and they work just fine. I never used the Hornady SSPs for hunting cause my barrels just don't like them. 2" at 100 at best. I get buck fever every time I see a deer and 2" turns into 10" when that happens But I hear they work well on game.
I've been using the Nosler 150gr BTs in a 20" 308Bellm at 2550fps and they work great. Very accurate and kills em dead. The 165s should be fine also. The Hornady 150gr. SSTs work well at 2500 but there not as accurate as the Noslers in my barrels.
BTW, That 150gr.FN Silvertip for the 30-30 is the most accurate bullet out of my Rem model 700 in 30-06

I use the Sierra 150gr spitzer boat tail and have never had other than perfect results with them. I push them to 2600fps and they allways work, no surprises. mvm
