You might want to get those screws replaced yourself and put it on e-bay. I just sold my duo mount for my encore for $51.00. I also purchased my Warne base and Q.D. rings there for the same price! I purchased an extra set of rings so I can alternate between an Aimpoint and my Leupold 2.5X8. Can't wait for deer season to open in Missouri this Saturday (16th).

Mark,
I did not pay attention earlier as to whether you were using a Contender Duo mount on the Encore, or if TC even has one set up for the Encore.

But I'll add this much. Most of the Duo mounts I have seen have too little thread contact on the screws. Standard hole depth on Contender barrels, about .135", gives at least 4 threads of screw contact, ie. at least 4 full turns. As I recall, the Duo mount's screws give only about 3 threads.

For screws to give full holding ability and resist stripping out due to minimal thread contact, the length of thread needs to be at least as long as the diameter of the screw, which is about .136" if I am remembering right. Thus, with full thread contact in the barrel screw holes, it is still marginal.

Screw holes in Encore barrels, on the other hand, are much deeper, and it appears that about .185" is the average screw hole depth.

You can go to longer screws in the Duo mount, BUT the heads on the screws TC uses are undersize, as are the countersinks in the base. The only thing I know of is to get longer screws, then spin the heads down to fit the countersinks in the base to fit the mount. Pain in the butt, I know, but it is good old TC engineering genius at work again.

This is one reason why I think the Duo mounts are best used for duck decoy anchors. They are heavy enough to do a pretty good job, and the stainless ones won't leave rust stains in your pickup bed. [Big Grin]
