Howdy, I just finished my first foreend, [Big Grin] Literally!
I made it from Big Leaf Maple that I had milled up here on the farm and some Black Walnut I got from a friend. I thought if anyone was interested they could see it on my new web page I just finished also. Just a plain page with pic's! Click the Miller Ranch Link below! Scroll down to Contender Pictures.

Hey Bob That's some beautiful area you are living in. It looks great! Is that property new or have you had it in the family for a long time? Sorry to not stay on the contenders.

Rich, Some of the property has been in my wife's family since the mid 50's. We've had it now since the late 70's. And a couple of years ago we where lucky enough to be able to buy an additonal 28.28 acres that adjoins the original propery. It's my little play ground!!!

mranch;

Nice work on the forearm for your Contender! Did you bed the barrel or use pillars? What caliber is the barrel, and have you shot it yet to test the improvement in accuracy? Could not miss the Bushnell Trophy 2X - 6X scope.

LRHA-Shooter, I used the hanger bar system to mount the Foreend. I read the article Mike Bellm has on piller bedding and that really sounds interesting. I may do that in the future, but for now I want to get this barrel out and shoot it to see what it will do! It is a Super 14 .223 that I have never shot. So I'll have to make this foreend work. I have a Harris Bi-pod I thought I might put on as well. This is the first Bushnell Trophy Scope that I have used. I think I like it so far. We'll see after I get out and shoot it, Which may be today. It's been raining here for the last 2 weeks, but this morning when I went outside, all the Stars are shining!! Hopefully a nice day today!!!

Bob,

Nice job on the forend. That big flat wide base will pay big dividends when it come to getting a solid hold and then to accuracy. Keep us posted on how it works out.

I also peeked in on your home page. Man do those steelhead bring back pleasant memories. I grew up in Hood River and did a lot of fishing for them on the Hood. Been gone a long time, but manage to get back almost every year and fish with my brother in Roseburg on the Umpqua and then we usually go up for a couple of days on the Deschutes as well.

Nice page,

Don Shearer

Bob, nice forend, you'll like that one and notice a diff as soon as you shoot that bbl.

What river you fishing there? I'm going to start fishing the steelies/lg trout again this year after a 10 plus year break from it, I have private access to some prime Santiam River front and after several years of invites figured I'm crazy not to take up the offer.

Hey Guys, Thanks for all the positive comments!!
I still haven't shot the thing yet, Man where are my priorities? Anyway Sean, I think I'll hang on to it for awhile. I'll let you know when I want to get rid of it [Confused] Did I say that!! [Confused]
I'll keep you guys posted on the results.
I think I might make a grip next out of the same stuff. That maple sure finishs up nice!

Wes, the river is the Alsea. We fish from Fall Creek down to Bear Creek. A good friend of mine has a house on Bear Creek which is real handy for that drift! On occasion we'll drift on down to 5 Rivers, But usually we have our limit by the time we get to his house. [Big Grin]
