I lucked into my 30-30 barrel as part of a set which included the super-14 30-30(irons) and S-14 223 scoped and the frame. All three are older itemd from I would say when the S-14 were first offered the front sight on the 223 is one of the perminately mounted ones! Both barrels shoot extremely well I use the 223 for long range plinking and the 30-30 currently as well but its also got a shot at a game animal should I even get out into the hunting fields again. Since the whole set came together I really can't complain. I have actually been quite happy with both barrels as they are and the recoil on both is easily tolerable some would say even fun. I like these 14" barrels and hope to add a 44 mag to the stable some day. Jim L

I realize this is not the answer you asked for, but will get to that. Also if you are not a reloader then is a the first answer is a moot point, just jump to the number two answer. 1) I think you will find the 10" barrel is a bit short for the 30-30 as Milek Herrett and others found out in the early days, though is is close to perfect for the 30 Herrett (308 X 221, or the 30 Bellm), would only make sense since they used reverse engineering on both of the Herrett cartridges, 2) I think I noticed a 10' 30-30 bull barrel on either Ron's or Ed's site just the other day. Both of them are full straight up guys to deal with. You might try advertising here for the barrel someone had one recently. Kinda pricey but the 30 Bellm or 308 X 221 can be purchased commercially. When it is all said and done you could get into the very . . . VERY basics of loading with the hand press from Lee and everything needed to reload could be stored in a small suitcase. Yes the afficanados will tell you all of the expensive equipment one HAS to own just to start reloading and go up from there including a reloading room . . . I started reloading and casting in 1967 and carried all of the gear for both in a little wooden case about 14" X 14" X 7" and still had it up until a couple of years ago. I still use the same powder scale and powder trickler from that kit! I cast and loaded MANY thousands of rounds out of that outfit. Heck it was a different time, I kept my pistol in the School Deans safe and just went and got it any time I wanted to go shoot. Could have kept it in the room but all was much safer with it protected from folks. As cheap as factory 30-30s are, you can load them cheaper. Just a couple of thoughts on the subject and IF you are gonna shoot it very little all of them are a waste of your time!

Read Mike B.'s post and believe it, I had my 30-30 Fox Ridge rechambered by him and I haven't regretted for a second. Go with a 14 - 16 inch barrel, 16" and you can throw on a stock, makes a quick handling little carbine. Dennis
