Apparently I have some sort of sickness and can't pass up buying an XP-100 whenever I see one. Now that I have a few in my collection I want to 'improve' one of them. What I am looking for is a stock with a wider fore end for shooting off a rest or a stock that I can mount a good by-pod too. Are there any smiths that specialize in customizing these pistols? I just use these to punch paper. Open to suggestions.

Midwayusa tends to lists the Fajen stock a couple of times per year. Potterfield (Midway owner) took over Fajen, and I am guessing these stocks are sitting around somewhere and gathering dust since Fajen went under. I believe the laminate version of these were called the Victory series. THey were available in coffee and green and were quite nice. THe plain wood version, which did require some finishing, was the first aftermarket stock I put on an XP, and it served me well for many years. ANother couple of options to try: Boyd's Gunstocks and GunStocks Inc. I don't have the web address for these, but a quick search should reveal them in short order. In Synthetic Stocks HS Precision makes two different version that I know of, the Silhouette and the Varmint (with the varmint having a wider forend if I remember right). I believe McMillian also has a Synthetic Stock available as does Brown Precision. I have used a Fajen Thumbhole, a Bishop Thumbhole (not sure if Bishop is still in business or not) and a Western Gunstocks Center Grip on XP's in the past. Larry

I't hard to find stocks specifically for XP's now. http://www.gunstocks.com/bargrem.html has walnut and laminates, http://www.gunstocksinc.com/index.html used to advertise, Brown Precision http://www.brownprecision.com/default.htm has a nice rear handled stock, HS Precision http://www.hsprecision.com/new_pistol_stock.htm has ones similar to mine except for stronger, stiffer forends. I'm not into the colored laminates but would like to find a nice walnut stock. I usually have too many projects going at the same time so I'm broke every time I find one I like, , but the BR stock xpfuzz pictured got me thinking again. I have a morpho Rem SA stock with an alum bedding block I made, waiting for me to decide which cal I want to stick in it. I could use my pattern with a few mods to get my other XP out of the ugly OEM stock and into something much more prettymus. I have a very early HS PR stock that is nice but doesn't fit my hand quite exact and the forend is weak. I had to do some stiffening and grinding/sanding here and there. I made a forend "slider" to fit the HS PR stock out of 1" x 4" x 5" Delrin but it was TOO wide for hunting use so I cut it down to 3" wide and it works great in the wide Protector BR bag. Similar setups work great on hunting style forends, but I can't decide if they are any better than a bipod or not. I also fiddled around until I found a good combination of factory and homemade bags plus alternate using a front bipod and rear homemade leg depending on which vehicle I'm using. I have a BMW with toolbox sidecar that is neat to shoot off of. Really raises the eyebrows and gets lots of questions when someone chances by. Sidecars are a rarity in my part of the world especially 50-100 miles back in the boonies. You just have to search the net for what you want or find a good gunstock 'smith to work with.
