Does anyone have any loading data on the 7mm jdj #2 aside from what comes with the ssk barrel. far as i can tell the data for a 7-08 is exactly the same, for the casings hols the same water volume. and i do know a few loads for the 7mm jdj #2 and they are the exact same for the 7-08 as well. I am just wondering about if this 7mm jdj would be too fast for a 100 grain hollow point( hornady) to expand properly on a whitetail.I never aim for the shoulder i always aim for the lungs as i do with my bow and my 300 wsm and rem. 25-06. any advicve would be greatly appreciated. jcrawley@cox.net

Hollow points? In rifle bullets, hollow points are normally thin jacketed target bullets. I dunno...

The 100 grain bullets, while they'll certainly kill a deer, are far from optimum for the caliber. The 120 and 140 grain Nosler BTs, the Sierra 130 grain SSP and the Hornady 120 grain SSP are the way to go here. My recommendation is the Sierra Single Shot Pistol bullet. I took 3 deer with this bullet last season, and performance in each case was terrific. MV from my 7mm Bullberry carbine was 2505 fps.

Forgot to add: if it shoots accurately, that 100 grain HP would make a heck of a woodchuck whopper -- if there are any of these critters in your part of the state.

see i know the 130 are good but we have a lot of crows and a lot of does. 40 does to every buck. we have do crop control here and im tryin to use a 7mm bullet to do both. i have shot both critters at 150 yards with my 6mm jdj and 95 grn noslers and it does great but now im shooting 70 noslers in the 6mm and i need a beef up in the 7 mm. i may be asking to much of a 100 grain hollow point, but when you are 600 miles a week in a truck riding the roads you have to learn to to something constructive.

I'd then go with the 120 grain Nosler BT. The difference in trajectory will be minimal, and the performance will give you a good compromise.

I use a 7mm Super Bower - its case is also a 307 Win necked down to 7mm and blown out to an improved configuration. The 100 grain HPs are great woodchuck/coyote bullets, but not deer. Sure you could use them but I have seen these bullets NOT get thru some close shots on large chucks. Penetration was limited while expansion was fantastic - just what one wants for a varmit bullet. I to would recommend the 120 gr BT or 130 gr Single shot pistol bullet for a dual bullet application. In my 14" barreled Bower, after much experimentation with 100 - 150 grain bullets, I use strictly Hornady's 139 grain Spire Point at 2400 fps. This bullet is very accurate in my barrel and will do whitetail up close and out past 250 yards, plus has taken over 50 chucks at ranges out to 300 yards. Good Luck and Good Shooting...RW

I have shot the 100 gr Hornady HP into wet newspaper at 50 yds out of a 7x30 waters. It totally disintegrated, I very much doubt that it would work very well for deer.
