Just got back from a hog hunt at Show Me Safaris. We had a great time. Mark Hampton runs a great outfit out there.

I shot one hog with my 375 JDJ. 2 hogs were shot with the 500 S&W that was loaned to my buddy by J.D. Jones. It was loaded with some 325 grain Speers traveling at about 2000fps. Damage was awsome. Video shows a large amount of blood come back towards he shooter. Enterance wound was large enough for me to stick my fist in it, exit would was slightly smaller. The gun was set up great, didn't recoil much more than my 5" 44 Super Blackhawk 44 mag.

On the way back we stopped by SSK to drop off the gun and I broke down and picked up a 10" blued 300 Whisper. JUST HAD TO DO IT!

I read an article a week or so ago that was a hog hunt with the 500. Neeedless to say, they were quite impressed with the performance. If my memory serves, the were all dispatched with a single round. I believe that the writer made a comment like "hogs were not much of a challenge for the 500"! Hmmmmmmm, this might make a good round for the Competitor! [Eek!] LOL! [Big Grin]

I couldn't believe the size of the hole left by the 325 Speer. We couldn't tell which hole was which until we saw the video. Same results with a second hog taken. Massive holes and lots of damage.
