Check this out!! Another great idea from Mike @ OTT!!
You are looking at a FULL 1" barrel for a Contender!! The Encore scope mount will mount directly to this barrel! You can also use the standard Encore forends on it....
The extremely large locking bolt retaining pin hole takes metal out where it is needed most for strength to resist the lower lip of the lug from bending down. Best to stick with the standard 3/32 pins.
I used to use 1/8" pins but have gone back to 3/32."
There are two of my barrels floating around made like this..... one is a .50 cal. muzzle loader barrel, the other is a .375 breech seat barrel for shooting cast lead I made for Ken Hulme about 1987.
The one advantage this barrel has with the metal milled away to .810" dia. to fit into the frame is that it permits the scope to be mounted back over the chamber.
When the area over the barrel lug is turned round, as is commonly done, then the scope has to be mounted forward, or the scope base must be reversed so it hangs back over the turned down area.
The 1" Contender barrels are outstanding for shooting off the bench!

I had to add lead shot to the stock of my VV 1" barrel to balance it out some. Not so much for shooting, but when I'd pick it up it would want to flip forward out of my hands !
I really need newer photo.

That is not an acutal lug that Mike uses, it is a dummy. The big holes are to keep it seperate from the "real" ones. All the other lugs he just made are attached to barrels, needed something to take the pics with......
Think i am gonna have Mike S make me one too Jules!!
