The only other advantage of the G2 frame is that it is somewhat stronger than the original Contender. If you are going to be pushing the limits of your Contender barrel, you would be better off going to the Encore. As far as the .223 Rem., I would stick with the stainless frame that you have, and pick up a used .223 barrel. They are not hard to find and there are usually several listed on eBay that can be picked up for a good price.

Personally, I would just look for a barrel as stated, but then again........$450 for the complete setup is a good price, as long as it is what you are looking for. Also being in a pawn shop, if the asking price is $450 then surely you are actually looking at $400 or even less.

Have both. If you owned a G2 you would probably not like the original because of the way they open. If however you own an original you would probably like the trigger and aesthics better on it. G2s and Encores are a bit plain to me.

I like both my original works great for a bench gun and target accuracy with its most excellent trigger. The G2 is a little easier to hunt with because of the cocking issues.

Buy the .223 barrel...you can use it no matter which frame you like better.
