What is it? I was surfing thru Ed's T/Cs and ran across a 22" "Texas Contender" in 25-35, other than being 22" instead of 21" what makes these diffrent from a regular ol' contender bbl.?

I think they were an outfit in er....... Texas [Big Grin] that manufactured Contender bbls. some time back but last I heard was out of business. Not sure when they went out though.

Have seen some references to them in some old gun rags. Think they were primarily into carbine conversions before TC came out with their own.

I've no personal experience with their work so will defer to others in that area.

Regards

If I may add, I think the dovetail lock spacing is different. If you want particulars on that write Ed, I know he'll be glad to measure it for you.

As I understand it, the "Texas Contenders" were made by a fella named Kendrick. I'm told they were the first to make a carbine length after market barrel for the Contender. I have owned two, one a 30 Herrett, that I traded to another board member and the other, a 222, I still have.

Their shop was in Houston and I did visit it once back in 1986 or 1987. Picked up some custom items they carried but never bought one of their barrels.
I'm not sure when they closed their doors.
It was a small shop but they were great people to talk with. I had just started a family and took a 15 year break on competitive shooting about that time....
